The following is a list of recurring Saturday Night Live characters and sketches introduced between October 1, 2005, and May 20, 2006, the thirty-first season of SNL.
Rachel Dratch plays Julie, a woman who provides the voice for automated speech recognition systems used by "companies such as United Airlines, Blue Cross and Amtrak." She interacts with other people in the same fashion as the automated system; for example, after she prompts her date to "please say your age" and he responds that he's 29, she says, "I think you said 19. Did I get that right?"
DJ Dynasty Handbag (Kenan Thompson) and co-host Tiara Zee (Rachel Dratch), replaced in December 2006 by T'Shane (Andy Samberg), host a showcase for house music acts. Both Tiara and T'Shane appear to have mental difficulties, perhaps from heavy drug use, and are berated constantly by DJ Dynasty Handbag.
Each sketch features that week's SNL host, along with various cast members, as musical performers.
A house dish is a very large wooden dish, often ornately carved and painted in various human or animal figures, used in First Nations ceremonies in British Columbia. House dishes may be reserved only for special foodstuffs and not used for more common fare.
Deep house is a subgenre of house music that originated in the 1980s, initially fusing elements of Chicago house with 1980s jazz-funk and touches of soul music. Deep house tracks generally have a tempo of between 120 and 125 beats per minute. This style of house music can often have an acoustic feeling. The online music store Beatport is credited with driving the popularity of deep house, but also mislabeling a number of artists in the process and giving rise to the future house genre.
Deep house is known for complex melody, use of unrelated chromatic chords underlying most sequences, and a soul, ambient, or lounge vibe to the vocals (if any). In the early compositions (1988–89), influences of jazz music were most frequently brought out by using more complex chords than simple triads (7ths, 9ths, 13ths, suspensions, alterations) which are held for many bars and give compositions a slightly dissonant feel. The use of vocals became more common in deep house than in many other forms of house music. Sonic qualities include soulful vocals (if vocals are included), slow and concentrated dissonant melodies, and a smooth, stylish, and chic demeanor. The use of women's vocals is more common than male's in deep house tracks. Deep house music rarely reaches a climax, but lingers on as a comfortable, relaxing sound.
I can't help but feeling that love
Is always dealing me a losing hand
California's sleeping and you've got me weeping
I am just a man, I'm just a man, I'm just a man
Standing at the airport
She is just a cohort coffee in her hand
Sacramento's breathing
And I can't help believing you don't understand
Don't understand, I'm just a man
Don't understand, I'm just a man
California's sleeping and you've
Got me weeping and I am just a man
I can't help but feeling that love
Is always dealing me a losing hand
My losing hand, I'm just a man
Standing at the airport
She is just a cohort coffee in her hand
Sacramento's breathing and I can't help believing
Conscious of my losing hand, my losing hand
My losing hand, don't understand
My losing hand, don't understand
California's sleeping and you've
Got me weeping and I am just a man
I can't help but feeling that love
Is always dealing me a losing hand
My losing hand, my losing hand
Don't understand, my losing hand
Don't understand, my losing hand
Don't understand, don't understand
