Deeba (Urdu: دیبا) is a Pakistani film actress. Her real name is Raheela. She was one of the leading film actresses during the 1960s and 1970s, well known for her romantic and tragic roles in Urdu and Punjabi films.[1][2] She started her career as an actress in Charagh jalta raha. Her performances in several films, such as Milan (1964), Aina (1966), Payal ki jhankar (1966), Sangdil (1968), Dard (1969), Sajna door diya (1970), Neend hamarey khuwab tumharey (1971), Ansoo (1971) and Perdes (1972), have won critical acclaim.[citation needed] She received a Nigar Best Actress award for the Punjabi film Sajna door diya in 1970. Her smiling face and innocent look have given rise to the description "Pakistani Mona Lisa"[1][2][3]

Deeba started her film career as a child star in Faisla in 1959. As an actor, she starred in Chiragh jalta raha in 1962. During the 1960s she gave breakthrough[clarification needed] performances in several more films, including: Khamosh raho (1964), Milan (1964), Sartaj (1965), Zameen (1965), Aina (1966), Hum dono (1966), Payal ki jhankar (1966), Phir subha hogi (1967), Doraha (1967), Zinda laash (1967), Sangdil (1968), Behan bhai (1968), Dard (1969), Ishaara (1969), Sajna door diya (1970), Afsana (1970) and Anjuman (1970). Sajna door diya was her first Punjabi film.

During the 1970s she was cast in numerous movies, including Neend hamarey khuwab tumharey (1971), Ansoo (1971), Perdes (1972), Ek raat (1972), Laila majnu (1973), Shama (1974), Shikwa (1975), Saajan rang rangeela (1975), Ajnabi (1975), Jageer (1975), Kharidar (1976), Paristish (1977), Mohabbat mar nahin sakti (1977), Roti kapra aur insaan (1977), Ehtajaj (1978) and Zameer (1980).

In the 1980s, the period of collapse of the Pakistani film industry, she moved to Dammam, Saudi Arabia,[1] and starred in only five films: Athra te jeedar (Punjabi) (1981), Qurbani (1981), Rab te maa (Punjabi) (1981), Doye daku (Pushto) (1987) and Karaye kay qatil (1989). In Doye daku, the only Pushto film of her career, she played opposite actor Mohammad Ali. Qurbani was her only box office success of the 1980s.

From the 1960s to the 1980s she worked with actors like Waheed Murad, Nadeem, Mohammad Ali, Syed Kamal, Habib, Ejaz, Shahid, Saeed Khan Rangeela, Sultan Rahi and Ghulam Mohiuddin.

During early 1990s, Deeba returned to Pakistan and restarted her film career with old characters, but most of her movies were unsuccessful in the box office. Sargam (1995) and Choorian (Punjabi) (1998) were her major films during 1990s.

During 2000s, she has been cast in only two films, Sapne apne apne and Salakhein (2004). The latter was a box office success.[4]
