The New Amsterdams is a Lawrence, Kansas-based American band featuring Matthew Pryor of The Get Up Kids.
The New Amsterdams began as a solo project to then-lead singer for The Get Up Kids, Matt Pryor. In 2000, he released his debut album Never You Mind, which was largely made up of acoustic tracks with sparse accompaniment. However, the album also featured Alex Brahl,Ed Rose, Jake Cardwell & Rob Pope providing extra instrument tracks.
Two years later in January 2002, Pryor released Para Toda Vida, this time sticking almost purely to acoustic guitar, with the exception of a few tracks utilizing harmonica and banjo as well. However, the next year the band went a step further in the release of Worse for the Wear, which utilized a full band for the first time, which at this time included Get Up Kids bandmates Ryan Pope and his brother Rob, as well as longtime friend and producer Ed Rose. The album was one of the earlier albums to be recorded at Black Lodge Studios, the recording studio renovated and co-owned by Ed Rose and the members of The Get Up Kids.
"Dear Lover" is a song released as a single by R&B singer Mary Wells, released off her album, The Two Sides of Mary Wells, on the Atco label. Produced by respected Chicago producer Carl Davis, the song returned Wells to the R&B top ten two years after her two Marvin Gaye singles entered the Cashbox R&B top five and three years after her Motown single, "You Lost the Sweetest Boy", peaked at number ten. It would also end up being Wells' last R&B top ten of her entire career though she still had a succession of R&B hits throughout the remainder of her career.
Dear Lover is the 12th album by American alt-country musician Matthew Ryan, released in October 2009.

Speak to me in a language I can hear
Humour me before I have to go
Deep in thought I forgive everyone
As the cluttered streets greet me once again
I know I can't be late, supper's waiting on the table
Tomorrow's just an excuse away
So I pull my collar up and face the cold, on my own
The earth laughs beneath my heavy feet
At the blasphemy in my old jangly walk
Steeple guide me to my heart and home
The sun is out and up and down again
I know I'll make it, love can last forever
Graceful swans of never topple to the earth
And you can make it last, forever you
You can make it last, forever you
And for a moment I lose myself
Wrapped up in the pleasures of the world
I've journeyed here and there and back again
But in the same old haunts I still find my friends
Mysteries not ready to reveal
Sympathies I'm ready to return
I'll make the effort, love can last forever
Graceful swans of never topple to the earth
Tomorrow's just an excuse
And you can make it last, forever you
