De Vries

De Vries is one of the most common Dutch surnames. It indicates a geographical origin: "Vriesland" is an old spelling of the Dutch province of Friesland (Frisia). Hence, "De Vries" means "The Frisian". The name has been transcended abroad to "DeVries", "deVries", or "Devries".

De Vries (crater)

De Vries is a lunar impact crater on the far side of the Moon relative to the Earth. It lies about mid-way between the craters Racah to the north-northwest and Orlov to the south-southeast. An nameless walled plain lies between De Vries and Orlov, with the perimeter of this feature joining the two rims.

This crater is not significantly eroded, although a small crater is attached to the exterior of the northern rim. Within the somewhat interior floor is a broad central rise offset just to the northeast of the midpoint.

Vries, Drenthe

Vries is a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 8 km north of Assen.

Vries was a separate municipality until 1998, when it was merged with Eelde and Zuidlaren into a new municipality called Tynaarlo .

In 2001, the town of Vries had 4002 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 1.6 km², and contained 1605 residences. The statistical area "Vries", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 4500.
