Mary Beth Patterson, known by her stage name Beth Ditto (born February 19, 1981), is an American singer-songwriter, most notable for her work with the indie rock band Gossip (previously known as The Gossip) and whose voice has been compared to Etta James, Janis Joplin and Tina Turner. She is often reported describing herself as a "fat, feminist lesbian from Arkansas".
Ditto grew up in a poor family in Arkansas in the southern United States, with her mother, various stepfathers, six siblings (two older brothers, an older sister, two younger brothers and a younger sister). She was raised Southern Baptist and Pentecostal. At age 13, she moved out of her mother's house and went to live with her aunt. She moved to Olympia, Washington in 1999; then to Portland, Oregon in 2003, where she lives as of 2014.
She has fronted the band Gossip since their formation in 1999. In addition to her band Gossip, Ditto has been involved in other musical projects. In 2008, she contributed vocals to the Crisis charity single "Consequences", a collaboration between various artists. In 2010, she sang on Simian Mobile Disco's track "Cruel Intentions" for their album of collaborations Temporary Pleasure. In 2011, she released her own 4-track Beth Ditto EP, produced by James Ford and Jas Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco, on the re-launched Deconstruction Records. She sang on Blondie's "A Rose by Any Name" from their 2013 album Ghosts of Download. Harrod Horatia, writing in The Telegraph, has said, "Where the stripped-down three-piece Gossip play propulsive, garage band blues, Ditto's own stuff is melancholic, soulful dance music, inspired by 'Eighties disco soul jams' that she loves, and the up-tempo pop-R&B of I Wanna Dance With Somebody-era Whitney Houston."
Days Go By may refer to:
Days Go By was the only single from Not by Choice's 2002 album, Secondhand Opinions and the last single released as a band. The music video features Not by Choice playing in the downtown Hamilton, Ontario GO Transit Bus terminal and riding on a Coach bus.
Days Go By is the ninth studio album by American punk rock band The Offspring, released on June 26, 2012 on Columbia. Produced by Bob Rock, the album is the band's first to feature drummer Pete Parada, who joined the band a year prior to the release of Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace (2008). The drum tracks were also recorded by session musician Josh Freese, who provided the same role on the band's previous two albums. Days Go By is The Offspring's last release on Columbia before they announced in early 2013 that they had fulfilled their contract with the label.
The Offspring commenced work on Days Go By in 2009, with plans to release it in 2010. However, its release was pushed back several times while the band continued touring and writing new material. The writing and recording process spanned three years and six recording studios (four in California, one in Hawaii and one in Canada) and was finished in March 2012. During the recording sessions, The Offspring re-recorded "Dirty Magic" (from their 1992 album Ignition), which serves as the album's ninth track.
I'll open up if you make an incision
I'll do right by you
All I ask is for your care and precision
And maybe I could pull through
You could've saved me if you'd only known better
But you so carlessly
Took me apart and put me back together
Open heart surgery
I was fine at first
Now I assume the worst
When I could overhear
The repercussions of a sad discussion
Another girl in tears
I could've saved here if I only knew better
That you so carelessly
Took her apart and put her back together
Open heart surgery
If girls like you and girls like me
Are really a dime a dozen
Why are we in such a high demand
My mother says it's just a shame you don't come around too often
Even she's begun to understand
Just let me know
What you were thinking
I find a way to get along somehow
Just let me go
Don't leave me hanging
Oh, please don't fail me now
Just take it slow
Don't let me suffer
I'm on the verge of an emergency
The final blow
Will make me tougher
Until then you will always be
A danger to me
We should've listened to our intuition
But we knew all to well
In addition to our suspicions
Only time could tell
With friends like you I get confused
Who needs enemies
We've been here too many times before
Open heart surgery
If girls like you and girls like me
Are really a dime a dozens
Why are we in such a high demand
My mother says it's just a shame you don't come around too often
Even she's begun to understand
Just let me know
What you were thinking
I find a way to get along somehow
Just let me go
Don't leave me hanging
Oh, please don't fail me now
Just take it slow
Don't let me suffer
I'm on the verge of an emergency
The final blow
Will make me tougher
Until then you will always be
A danger to me
A danger to me
