Dawnstar

Dawnstar is a fictional superheroine in comic books published by DC Comics. She was created by Paul Levitz and Mike Grell.

Fictional character biography

Dawnstar (her real name, she has no Legion code name) is from the planet Starhaven, a world colonized by American Indians abducted from Earth by an unknown alien race in the 13th Century. Her name is derived from the appearance on Earth of the planet Venus, the "morning star", and which is reason why she wears an eight-pointed star ornament on her forehead.

Dawnstar's people are of Anasazi Indian heritage. Starhavenites have pairs of large white-feathered wings that grow out of their upper backs, the result of genetic engineering by the unknown alien race that resettled them and triggered their metagenes. Their appearance is somewhat similar to Thangarians.

Dawnstar's parents are Mistrider and Moonwalker, and her younger brothers are Greybird and Greatfire. During her late childhood and early teens, her parents built a thriving business on their daughter's ability to guide spaceships through hazardous areas of space. She also worked as a guide to hunters of animals.

Dawnstar (band)

Dawnstar are a Hungarian rock band from Budapest. The band's line-up is the song-writer Attila Wind (vocals/guitars), Bálint Hamvas (bass) and Viktor Albert (drums). The sound of the band is generally a mix of flanging and light distorted guitars, throbbing bass, and enchanting keyboard melodies. Dawnstar represent a mixture of mid-1960's psychedelic, late 1970's goth, mid-1980's grunge and 1990's indie rock of the Budapest indie music scene.

History

Formation

Wind met Hamvas in the mid-1990s at the Teleki Blanka Gymnasium in Budapest, Hungary. In 1999 they formed Ansellia, named after the eponymous orchid, as a duo project and recorded their first demo, Eunomia. In 2000 Wind composed eight new tracks which were recorded in Piliscsaba. This demo entitled Vanity helped the band recruit Albert who was Hamvas's classmate at the Budapest Business School. After several concerts at local clubs, in spring 2001 the band started using the name Dawnstar, which is a portmanteau of ″dawn″ and ″star″ as an alternative for Morning Star or Venus, instead of Ansellia. They gave their first concert with this new name on 13 December 2002 at the Woodoo club in Csepel. The early sound of the band was influenced by the grunge revolution from Seattle. However, later the band started to mix their sound with many different music genres such as psychedelia, post-punk and garage rock. In 2002 Dawnstar recorded their third demo, Under Your Wings, at the Pick-up Studios in Budapest. The result was a mixture of flanging verses and distorted choruses establishing the distinctive sound of the band.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an action role-playing open world video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Skyrim was released worldwide on November 11, 2011, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Three downloadable content (DLC) add-ons were released—Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn—which were repackaged into The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Legendary Edition, which was released on June 4, 2013.

Skyrim's main story revolves around the player character and their effort to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The game is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. Skyrim continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.
