David Phillips (CSI)

David Gregory Phillips is a fictional character on the CBS crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, portrayed by David Berman, who also serves as head researcher for the series. From Season 10 onwards David Berman has been credited in the opening titles.

Work

Phillips (nicknamed "Super Dave") is the assistant coroner to Chief Medical Examiner Al "Doc" Robbins. He received his self-ascribed nickname after saving the life of a victim during an autopsy. In the ninth season, episode "The Gone Dead Train," he is promoted to Assistant Medical Examiner and conducts his first solo autopsy. Due to his line of work, he is not fazed by much. Occasionally other characters, including new CSIs, have been turned off by his and Doc Robbins's gallows humor.

Personal life

Though earlier in the series, the main characters tease him about his supposed lack of social experience, David marries at some point early in the seventh season. (He makes mention in 703 "Toe Tags" about meeting with the wedding planner, and makes similar comments in other episodes.) In the seventh season episode "Leapin' Lizards", he comments to Warrick Brown that his wife enjoys talking with him about the gruesome details of his work. In Season 13 his wife gives birth to their son Joshua Adams.

David Phillips (climatologist)

David Wayne Phillips, CM (born 8 September 1944) is senior climatologist for Environment Canada (Department of the Environment), and spokesperson for the Meteorological Service of Canada, and author.

Early life and education

Phillips was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, studied geography at the University of Windsor, graduating in 1967 with a B. A.

Career

Phillips taught high school for a short time. He was then hired by the Meteorological Branch of Transport Canada to conduct research on the Great Lakes in Toronto. The work involved using climatological data to answer questions about climatic records: farmers asking for frost-free seasons or temperature trends, urban planners assessing the location for an airport or about the climatology of the wind for tall-buildings and more general public queries.

In the 1990s Phillips was filmed by the Weather Network, which created a series 90-second trivia shorts about various weather topics entitled "Ask the Expert".

David Phillips (chemist)

David Phillips CBE FRSC (born 1939) is a British Chemist specializing in photochemistry and lasers, and was President of the Royal Society of Chemistry from 2010 to 2012.

Education and early life

Phillips was born 3 December 1939 in Kendall, lived in South Shields and attended the Grammar School. He studied at the University of Birmingham attaining a BSc and PhD.

Career and research

Phillips began his career doing postdoctoral research at the University of Texas at Austin and the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He was appointed a Lecturer in chemistry at the University of Southampton, rising to the status of Reader then becoming Wolfson Professor of Natural Philosophy, at the Royal Institution. In 1989 he moved to Imperial College, London as Professor of Physical Chemistry and held a number of senior posts there.

In 1987 he gave the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures on television. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1999 and Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2012 New Year Honours for services to chemistry. In May 2011 he was the guest on Desert Island Discs and in June 2012 was Michael Berkeley's guest on Private Passions.

Dave Phillips (ice hockey)

David Phillips (born 14 August 1987 in Kingston upon Hull, England) is a British professional ice hockey defenceman, currently playing for the Manchester Storm of the British Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL).

Playing career

Phillips began his career within the Kingston-upon-Hull club in England, playing for Kingston Crunch U-16, Kingston Predators U-19 and then Kingston Jets of the English National League in November 2003. He then moved up to the Hull Stingrays in the British National League, a team which joined the Elite League in 2006. Phillips established himself as one of Britain's top defencemen and served as assistant captain of the Stingrays in the 2007–08 season. He moved to the Belfast Giants for the 2008–09 season, becoming new coach Steve Thornton's first signing. Establishing a career high 25 points in 54 games, Phillips helped the Giants to be crowned Champions of the Challenge Cup and Knockout Cup.

On 28 April 2009, Phillips re-signed to remain with the Giants for the following season. However, with NHL ambitions, and following an impressive performance in an Chicago Blackhawks evaluation camp, Phillips was signed to a two-way contract with American Hockey League affiliate team, the Rockford IceHogs on 12 July 2009. He participated on an invitation in the Blackhawks training camp, before returning to the IceHogs to begin the 2009–10 season. After making his North American debut against the Peoria Rivermen on 4 October 2009, Phillips was briefly loaned to ECHL team Toledo Walleye, scoring his first North American professional goal, before he was recalled to the IceHogs to remain for the majority of the season posting 6 assists in 52 games.

David of Bulgaria

David (Bulgarian: Давид) (died 976) was a Bulgarian noble, brother of Emperor Samuel and eldest son of komes Nicholas. After the disastrous invasion of Rus' armies and the fall of North-eastern Bulgaria under Byzantine occupation in 971, he and his three younger brothers took the lead of the defence of the country. They executed their power together and each of them governed and defended a separate region. He ruled the southern-most parts of the realm from Prespa and Kastoria and was responsible for the defence the dangerous borders with Thessalonica and Thessaly. In 976 he participated in the major assault against the Byzantine Empire but was killed by vagrant Vlachs between Prespa and Kostur.

However, there's also another version about David’s origin. David gains the title "comes" during his service in the Byzantine army which recruited many Armenians from the Eastern region of the empire. The 11th-century historian Stepanos Asoghik wrote that Samuel had one brother, and they were Armenians from the district Derjan. This version is supported by the historians Nicholas Adontz, Jordan Ivanov, and Samuil's Inscription where it’s said that Samuel’s brother is David. Also, the historians Yahya and Al Makin clearly distinguish the race of Samuel and David (the Comitopouli) from the one of Moses and Aaron (the royal race):

David, Chiriquí

David (Spanish pronunciation: [daˈβið]) officially San José de David is a city and corregimiento located in the west of Panama. It is the capital of the province of Chiriquí and has an estimated population of 144,858 inhabitants as confirmed in 2013. It is a relatively affluent city with a firmly established, dominant middle class and a very low unemployment and poverty index. The Pan-American Highway is a popular route to David.

David Abraham Cheulkar

David Abraham Cheulkar (1909 – 28 December 1981), popularly known as David, was a Jewish-Indian Hindi film actor and a member of Mumbai's Marathi speaking Bene Israel community. In a career spanning four decades, he played mostly character roles, starting with 1941 film Naya Sansar, and went on to act in over 110 films, including memorable films like, Gol Maal (1979), Baton Baton Mein (1979) and Boot Polish (1954) for which he was awarded the 1955 Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.

Early life

David graduated from the University of Bombay with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the year 1930. After a six year unsuccessful struggle to land himself a job, he decided to try his luck in the Hindi film industry by becoming a professional actor. During these years of struggle, he also managed to obtain a degree in law from the Government Law College.

Finally, on 15 January 1937, with the help of his close friend Mr. Nayampalli, a veteran character actor, he managed to land himself his first role in a movie. The movie was Zambo and it was being produced and directed by Mohan Bhavnani who was the Chief Producer of the Films Division of the Government of India.
