David Hernandez

David or Dave Hernandez may refer to:

David Hernandez (poet)

David Hernandez (born in 1971) is an American poet and novelist. Most recently, he was awarded a 2011 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship for Poetry.

Life

His poems have appeared in FIELD, The Threepenny Review, Ploughshares,The Missouri Review,Kenyon Review,TriQuarterly, The Southern Review, Shade,Poetry Daily, AGNI,Epoch, Iowa Review, Pleiades. His drawings have appeared in Indiana Review.

He teaches poetry at California State University, Long Beach, and teaches creative writing at California State University, Fullerton. He lives in Long Beach, California.

David Hernandez (baseball)

David Jose Hernandez (born May 13, 1985) is an American professional baseball relief pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks. He attended Cosumnes River College.

Professional career

Baltimore Orioles

Hernandez, who is of Mexican-American descent, was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 16th round, 483rd overall pick, of the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft. Hernandez made his debut against the Detroit Tigers on May 28, 2009. He went 5²⁄₃ innings. He gave up five hits, allowed four walks, and only one earned run while striking out three.

Hernandez throws a 95 mph fastball, a 78 mph slider, and an 84 mph changeup. He is known for his high strikeout rate, which improved at every level in the minors, from 9.54 K/9 in A to 12.46 K/9 in AAA. He is a flyball pitcher - 45% of balls in play are flyballs, with only 38% of them staying on the ground.

Arizona Diamondbacks

On December 6, 2010 he was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks (along with Kam Mickolio) for Mark Reynolds and a player to be named later (John Hester).
