David Gilbert Yates

David Gilbert Yates (1870 – May 9, 1918) was an American otorhinolaryngologist, born in New Jersey. He attended private schools and after a brief stint as a journalist entered New York University, receiving his medical degree in 1898. He performed surgery at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, and at other facilities.

He contributed many original papers to the literature of his specialty, and at various times was contributing editor of the Medical Critic and of the New International Yearbook, and medical editor of the New International Encyclopedia.

David Gilbert (snooker player)

David Brown Gilbert (born 12 June 1981 in Derby) is an English professional snooker player. Gilbert is a former World Snooker Young Player of Distinction and practices in Tamworth, Staffordshire, at Tamworth Cue Sports Leisure Club. Having never previously been beyond the last 16 of a ranking event, Gilbert reached the final of the 2015 International Championship where he lost 10–5 to John Higgins.

Career

Early career

Gilbert began his professional career by playing UK Tour in 1999, at the time the second-level professional tour. In the 2007/2008 season Gilbert reached the last 32 of three tournaments without progressing further. Most notably he qualified for the 2007 World Championship where he led Stephen Hendry 1–5, before succumbing to a 10–7 defeat. Shortly before this match his mother Joan was diagnosed with breast cancer, though she ultimately recovered . To qualify he beat Alfie Burden, Gerard Greene and Mark King.

The other two were the 2007 Welsh Open – where he won his two qualifying matches then beat James Wattana in the last 48 in Newport, before losing 5–0 to Steve Davis – and the 2008 Grand Prix, where he again faced Hendry and again challenged him before succumbing 5–4.

David Gilbert (activist)

David Gilbert (born October 6, 1944) is an American radical leftist organizer and activist who is currently imprisoned at Auburn Correctional Facility. Gilbert was a founding member of Columbia University Students for a Democratic Society and member of the Weather Underground Organization.

After a decade underground, he was arrested for his part in the Brink's robbery in October 1981, along with members of the Black Liberation Army and other radicals including Kathy Boudin, his partner and mother of Chesa Boudin. He and she both participated in that robbery and were sent to prison for their part in the resulting murders of Nyack police officers Waverly Brown and Edward O'Grady and Brinks guard Peter Paige.

Activism and influences

David Gilbert grew up in a Jewish family in Brookline, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. He was an Explorer Scout, and his father was Post Leader, of a South Brookline Explorer Post. Inspired in his teens by the Greensboro sit-ins and other events of the Civil Rights Movement, he joined the Congress of Racial Equality at age seventeen. He entered Columbia University in 1962. In March 1965 Gilbert founded the Independent Committee on Vietnam (ICV) at Columbia University. Later, in the same year, he co-founded the Columbia University Chapter of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) which merged with ICV in the Fall of 1966 even though there was already a chapter set in place that was formed in the early sixties. The SDS chapter founded by Gilbert became renowned.

Dave Gilbert (cricketer)

David Robert 'Lizard' Gilbert (born 29 December 1960, Darlinghurst, New South Wales) is a former Australian cricketer who played in 9 Tests and 14 ODIs from 1985 to 1986. He also played for New South Wales, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, and the Tasmanian Tigers.

Gilbert got his chance at international cricket due to player bans as a result of rebel tours to South Africa. He performed reasonably well leading the attack, but never really proved himself at international level. He toured England, New Zealand and India with the Australian team. He also played 14 One Day Internationals, taking 18 wickets at 30.66.

He achieved greater success at first class level, taking over 350 wickets. Since retiring he has taken and excelled at executive levels with Surrey County Cricket Club, Sussex County Cricket Club and the New South Wales Blues.

He was subsequently a successful coach and cricket manager for Sussex and worked as the CEO of the New South Wales Cricket Association until 14 January 2013 when he resigned.

David of Bulgaria

David (Bulgarian: Давид) (died 976) was a Bulgarian noble, brother of Emperor Samuel and eldest son of komes Nicholas. After the disastrous invasion of Rus' armies and the fall of North-eastern Bulgaria under Byzantine occupation in 971, he and his three younger brothers took the lead of the defence of the country. They executed their power together and each of them governed and defended a separate region. He ruled the southern-most parts of the realm from Prespa and Kastoria and was responsible for the defence the dangerous borders with Thessalonica and Thessaly. In 976 he participated in the major assault against the Byzantine Empire but was killed by vagrant Vlachs between Prespa and Kostur.

However, there's also another version about David’s origin. David gains the title "comes" during his service in the Byzantine army which recruited many Armenians from the Eastern region of the empire. The 11th-century historian Stepanos Asoghik wrote that Samuel had one brother, and they were Armenians from the district Derjan. This version is supported by the historians Nicholas Adontz, Jordan Ivanov, and Samuil's Inscription where it’s said that Samuel’s brother is David. Also, the historians Yahya and Al Makin clearly distinguish the race of Samuel and David (the Comitopouli) from the one of Moses and Aaron (the royal race):

David, Chiriquí

David (Spanish pronunciation: [daˈβið]) officially San José de David is a city and corregimiento located in the west of Panama. It is the capital of the province of Chiriquí and has an estimated population of 144,858 inhabitants as confirmed in 2013. David Abraham Cheulkar

David Abraham Cheulkar (1909 – 28 December 1981), popularly known as David, was a Jewish-Indian Hindi film actor and a member of Mumbai's Marathi speaking Bene Israel community. In a career spanning four decades, he played mostly character roles, starting with 1941 film Naya Sansar, and went on to act in over 110 films, including memorable films like, Gol Maal (1979), Baton Baton Mein (1979) and Boot Polish (1954) for which he was awarded the 1955 Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.

Early life

David graduated from the University of Bombay with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the year 1930. After a six year unsuccessful struggle to land himself a job, he decided to try his luck in the Hindi film industry by becoming a professional actor. During these years of struggle, he also managed to obtain a degree in law from the Government Law College.

Finally, on 15 January 1937, with the help of his close friend Mr. Nayampalli, a veteran character actor, he managed to land himself his first role in a movie. The movie was Zambo and it was being produced and directed by Mohan Bhavnani who was the Chief Producer of the Films Division of the Government of India.
