David Dixon

David Dixon (born 28 October 1947) is an English actor and screenwriter. He was born in the Nightingale Maternity Home, Derby, near his father's shop in London Road and brought up there before the family moved to Normanton in 1959.

Dixon's most notable role was in the 1981 BBC TV series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in which he starred as Ford Prefect. He also received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Ariel in the 1980 BBC version of "The Tempest". He would later rejoin the Hitchhiker's Guide by lending his voice to the "Ecological Man" and the "Zirzla Leader" in Fit the Twentieth of the Radio Series, while Geoffrey McGivern, who had originally played the character on radio, returned to the role of Ford.

Despite a relatively sparse TV and Film career, David Dixon has over the years acquired a loyal fan following online who call themselves "Dixonites".

David Tukatahi Dixon (born 5 January 1969) is a former American football guard who played eleven professional seasons in the National Football League and was the second Maori to play in professional football after Riki Ellison. He also earned a ring as part of the practice squad for the Dallas Cowboys, although never receiving the ring. Dixon attended Arizona State University. His number on the Vikings was 71.

Dixon's daughter TeTori plays for the United States women's national volleyball team.

David Dixon (June 4, 1923 – August 8, 2010) was an American businessman and sports executive who helped create the New Orleans Saints NFL team, the Louisiana Superdome, World Championship Tennis (WCT) and the United States Football League (USFL). An alumnus of Tulane University, Dixon created the New Orleans Professional Football Club, Inc., to lobby for an NFL or an AFL franchise for that city starting in 1962.

In the 1961 season the Oakland Raiders finished 1-13, but several future Hall of Fame players were on that team. The owner decided to sell the team to Dixon for $236,000, and the team would have become the New Orleans Raiders; however, the mayor of Oakland interceded and helped put a group together and the team remained in Oakland.

After persuading the AFL to play its 1965 All-Star game in New Orleans, Dixon experienced a setback when black players encountered discrimination in the French Quarter. The AFL moved the game to Houston. Later in the year, Dixon first proposed a football league, also called the USFL, that would play its games in the spring rather than the fall. Dixon eventually used the formation of this league to persuade the NFL to expand into New Orleans, which is how the New Orleans Saints came into being on November 1, 1966.

Dixon was born in Bridgwater, Somerset, England. He turned professional in 2001.

Dixon had a glittering amateur career, the highlight of which was his performance at the 2001 Open Championship, where he earned the silver medal as the lowest finishing amateur.

Dixon bounced between the European Tour and the Challenge Tour between 2001 to 2007. However in 2008 he secured his first ever professional win, and his status as a European Tour member, with victory at the Saint-Omer Open.

David Dixon (footballer)

David P. Dixon (November 1898 – after 1930) was an English professional footballer who played in the Football League for Birmingham and for Southend United. He played as a right back.

Dixon was born in North Shields, which was then in Northumberland. He began his football career with South Shields and Preston Colliery before moving to Birmingham of the Second Division in May 1920. Dixon was always behind Frank Womack, Jack Jones and Eli Ashurst in the pecking order at full-back, and played only four league games in five seasons. He joined Southend United in May 1925, where again he played only four times in the Football League. He later played for Rhyl Athletic and Bedlington United, and retired from the game in 1931. He died in Newcastle upon Tyne.

David (Bulgarian: Давид) (died 976) was a Bulgarian noble, brother of Emperor Samuel and eldest son of komes Nicholas. After the disastrous invasion of Rus' armies and the fall of North-eastern Bulgaria under Byzantine occupation in 971, he and his three younger brothers took the lead of the defence of the country. They executed their power together and each of them governed and defended a separate region. He ruled the southern-most parts of the realm from Prespa and Kastoria and was responsible for the defence the dangerous borders with Thessalonica and Thessaly. In 976 he participated in the major assault against the Byzantine Empire but was killed by vagrant Vlachs between Prespa and Kostur.

However, there's also another version about David’s origin. David gains the title "comes" during his service in the Byzantine army which recruited many Armenians from the Eastern region of the empire. The 11th-century historian Stepanos Asoghik wrote that Samuel had one brother, and they were Armenians from the district Derjan. This version is supported by the historians Nicholas Adontz, Jordan Ivanov, and Samuil's Inscription where it’s said that Samuel’s brother is David. Also, the historians Yahya and Al Makin clearly distinguish the race of Samuel and David (the Comitopouli) from the one of Moses and Aaron (the royal race):
