Dave Baker

Dave Baker (born July 30, 1937 in Coffeyville, Kansas, died September 4, 2002 in Norman, Oklahoma) was a defensive back in the NFL, playing for the San Francisco 49ers for three years.

David Baker grew up in Bartlesville, OK, earning All-State honors in football, basketball and baseball. He enrolled at the University of Oklahoma in 1955 under legendary coach Bud Wilkinson. During his three years of eligibility (freshman were not eligible in 1955), the Sooners went 30-2, were in the midst of their 47 game win streak (still an NCAA record), and won the Big 7 conference title all three years. Players played both ways at the time, Baker playing defensive back, quarterback and running back. In 1959 he was drafted into the NFL as the fifth pick of the 1st round by the San Francisco 49ers. In the last 40 years of Sooner football (226 NFL draft picks), only Lee Roy Selmon, Billy Sims and Tony Casillas have been drafted higher. Baker played cornerback for the 49ers for three seasons (1959–1961) and still to this day holds the 49ers interception per season record, making 21 career interceptions, an average of seven per season. In his 1959 rookie season, he was selected to the NFL All-Pro team. Monte Clark, an All-Pro tackle with the Cleveland Browns and later an NFL head coach, spoke to the 1965-66 SNU basketball team and stated, “In my fifteen-year NFL pro career, David Baker was the hardest hitting and best defensive back I have seen in the NFL.”

Dave Baker (born March 27, 1962) is a Minnesota politician and member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota, he represents District 17B in west-central Minnesota.

Baker was raised in Hamel, Minnesota. He attended the St. Cloud Area Vocational Technical Institute.

Baker has been married to his wife, Marym since 1985. They have three children and reside in Willmar, Minnesota.

David Baker (born 30 December 1965) is an English former professional racing cyclist, specialising in cyclo-cross and mountain bike racing.

Biography

Baker, from Dronfield Derbyshire, began his Cycling years riding for Norton Wheelers in Cyclo-cross events. He soon progressed and joined the Ace Racing Team where himself & fellow Team Mate Tim Gould dominated Cyclo-cross events for years. In the late 1980s Baker and Gould tried mountain bike racing in small events, this progressed to MBC (Mountain Bike Club) events which were recognised as a National Series back then. To the early 1990s the 7UP BMBF (British Mountain Bike Federation) was born- (the sport of Mountain Biking was booming) David won the 7UP National Series on numerous occasions. This was also supplemented with Mountain Bike National Champion titles. In 1993 David won the UK round of the Grundig Mountain Bike World Cup at Newnham Park near Plymouth UK. - this was a fantastic ride as having not been a regular rider in the World Series he had to qualify in a race the day before. This was David's openining to world recognition from sponsors in the next few years & to the final part of his career. David represented Great Britain at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games placing 15th in the men's mountain bike event. Two years later after the 1996 Summer Olympics David was still competing at World Class level when he was forced to retire with heart problems. In 2009 David was inducted into the British Cycling Hall of Fame to be recognised as one of the great champions of the sport.

David Glenn Baker (born November 25, 1957) was a third baseman in Major League Baseball. He appeared in nine games with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1982. He was an alummns of UCLA.

Baker was the older brother of Doug Baker who also played in the major leagues.
