Dateline

A dateline is a brief piece of text included in news articles that describes where and when the story occurred, or was written or filed, though the date is often omitted. In the case of articles reprinted from wire services, the distributing organization is also included (though the originating one is not). Datelines are traditionally placed on the first line of the text of the article, before the first sentence. The location appears first, usually starting with the city in which the reporter has written or dispatched the report. City names are usually printed in uppercase, though this can vary from one publication to another. The political division and/or nation the city is in may follow, but they may be dropped if the city name is widely recognizable due to its size or political importance (a national capital, for instance). The date of the report comes after, followed by an em dash surrounded by spaces, and then the article.

Dateline (Australian TV program)

Dateline is an Australian television public affairs program broadcast on SBS One. Since its debut at 8:00 pm on Friday 19 October 1984, it has focused largely on international events, often in developing or warring nations. Since 2000, Dateline reporters have travelled by themselves without a camera crew or sound engineers. It remains the longest-running international current affairs program in Australia.

History

Dateline has been involved in many major events around the world, including releasing a story on 20 February 2002, on suspected treason perpetrated by Morgan Tsvangirai in Zimbabwe. He was later acquitted by the High Court of Zimbabwe, but brought a lawsuit against Dateline for alleged defamation.

Since its conception, the media program has covered areas of international current affairs, such as environmental policies, technological innovations' political impacts (such as electric cars in the US), and general political events such as the Iraq War and violence in East Timor (2006).

Dateline (TV series)

Dateline (French Je me souviens) is a Canadian historical drama television series which aired on CBC Television and Radio-Canada television from 1955 to 1956.

Premise

This series provided dramatic performances based on Canadian history. It was produced in English and French versions with the same performers. Canadian military and public archives provided research material to support the historical background of the dramas. Dateline referenced events such as the Battle of Fort Oswego (1756), construction of the Rideau Canal (1826–1832), Red River Rebellion (1870), Canadian participation in the Nile Expedition (1884) and the North-West Rebellion (1885).

"Ferguson's Crime", the debut episode, is set after Battle of the Plains of Abraham. It concerned a British soldier who receives a death sentence after a romantic entanglement with an Ursuline nun who treats his injuries.

Scheduling

This half-hour series was broadcast on CBC's English network on alternate Fridays at 8:00 p.m. (Eastern) from 7 October 1955 to 30 March 1956. Wayne and Shuster was broadcast on other weeks.
