Darren Ford may refer to:

Darren Ford (baseball)

Darren Scott Ford (born October 1, 1985 in Vineland, New Jersey), nicknamed The Bullet, is an American professional baseball outfielder in the San Francisco Giants organization. His nickname is derived from his world-class foot speed, although it has not translated into a high percentage of stolen bases as he has been caught stealing or picked off quite a bit during his callups to the Parent club.

Early life and Education

Ford played for the South Vineland Little League organization during his youth which went to the Junior League world series in Taylor, Michigan and the Senior League World Series in Kissimmee, Florida and Bangor, Maine. He was also a stand out high school football player and track star. In high school, he recorded a 4.44 sec 40 yard dash time. Ford attended Vineland High School and then Chipola College.

Professional career

Milwaukee Brewers

He was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 18th round, 526th overall, in the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft. He began his professional career in 2005, playing for the Rookie-level Helena Brewers. In 61 games that year, he hit .271 with one home run, 24 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. In 2006, he played in 125 games for the A-level West Virginia Power, hitting .283 with seven home runs, 54 RBIs and 69 stolen bases. He ranked second in the South Atlantic League in stolen bases, behind only Eric Young, Jr.. He split the 2007 season between West Virginia and the Brevard County Manatees, hitting a combined .278 with nine home runs, 60 RBIs and 67 stolen bases. He began the 2008 season with the Manatees. On July 20, 2008, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants with minor leaguer Steve Hammond for Ray Durham.

Lowgold

Lowgold are an English indie rock band formed in 1997 in St Albans, comprising vocalist and rhythm guitarist Darren Ford, lead guitarist Dan Symons and bassist Miles Willey.

The band originally claimed that the word "lowgold" was derived from a Nordic word, directly translated as "of hidden worth". However the band later admitted that it is just a word that Ford made up.

History

Army child Darren Lee Ford, born in Tidworth, Hampshire, spent much of his childhood travelling around Northern Ireland, Germany and England, where his father was stationed before attending boarding school near Dover and spent the previous 10 years before forming Lowgold on the dole and drumming in numerous bands such as The Knievels with his older brother Gary and Shinecello with Miles Willey on guitar as well as touring the stand-up comedy circuit for eight months. Fed up of backing others, he decided to begin singing his songs himself and recorded home demos on a four-track portastudio with friend Dan Symons, from Poole, Dorset, and sent them off to several record labels. Nude Records responded that they were interested, and wanted to hear more songs and see the band live. When the duo informed Nude that there wasn't actually a band, the label suggested that needed to form one. They enlisted Miles Willey, from Bromley, Kent, who in addition to being a former bandmate and current housemate of Ford was an old university friend of Symons' on bass, and drafted in Paul Mayes on drums. Symons and Miles had also previously been in rival bands at University Of Hertfordshire. Symons was a member of Quadpeace, who had previously toured with Shinecello and Willey had been a member of Fetus Eaters.
