Belief

Belief is the state of mind in which a person thinks something to be the case, with or without there being empirical evidence to prove that something is the case with factual certainty. In other words, belief is when someone thinks something is reality, true, when they have no absolute verified foundation for their certainty of the truth or realness of something. Another way of defining belief is, it is a mental representation of an attitude positively orientated towards the likelihood of something being true. In the context of Ancient Greek thought, two related concepts were identified with regards to the concept of belief: pistis and doxa. Simplified, we may say that pistis refers to trust and confidence, while doxa refers to opinion and acceptance. The English word doctrine is derived from doxa. Belief's purpose is to guide action and not to indicate truth.

In epistemology, philosophers use the term ‘belief’ to refer to personal attitudes associated with true or false ideas and concepts. However, ‘belief’ does not require active introspection and circumspection. For example, we never ponder whether or not the sun will rise. We simply assume the sun will rise. Since ‘belief’ is an important aspect of mundane life, according to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, the question that must be answered is, “how a physical organism can have beliefs” (http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/belief/).

Belief (song)

"Belief" was the second single from John Mayer's 2006 album Continuum. The song features Ben Harper on guitar.

Despite its success on the American adult album alternative chart and the South African Top 40, the song never had a music video. The song was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards.

The song is about the moral war around the world with people's beliefs and that one cannot keep the world under control to get every single person to believe just one thing.

Belief (album)

Belief is the second album of the British EBM group Nitzer Ebb. It was the first album recorded with drummer Julian Beeston (who took over from David Gooday), and Flood took over as producer from Phil Harding. It was released by Mute Records on 9 January 1989 (1989-01-09).

The fifth song on the album, "T.W.A.", appears to have been inspired by the Hezbollah hijacking of TWA flight 847 in 1985.

In a 1989 retrospective for Rolling Stone, Jim Farber wrote that the music video for "Control, I'm Here" had "the most harshly industrial visuals of the year".

Dare (La La La)

"Dare (La La La)" is a song recorded by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira from her self-titled tenth studio album Shakira (2014). The song was first released to contemporary hit radio in Italy on 28 March 2014, as the third single from the album and was later released in a remix bundle in the United States via RCA Records. The song was co-written by Shakira, Jay Singh (J2), Dr. Luke, Mathieu Jomphe-Lepine, Max Martin, Cirkut, Raelene Arreguin and John J. Conte, Jr. while the production was handled by J2, Dr. Luke, Shakira, Cirkut and Billboard. The song is an uptempo, electro house song built over drums and chants.

A reworked version of the song entitled "La La La (Brazil 2014)" was released on 27 May as the second theme song for the 2014 World Cup. This was Shakira's second time singing the theme song for the FIFA World Cup (The first being in 2010). The song included new lyrics and features Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown. The version was praised by music critics and fared well commercially. An accompanying video was directed by Shakira's long time collaborator Jaume de Laiguana, the music video is influenced by Afro-Brazilian heritage and tribal imagery and features cameos from a variety of football players including Lionel Messi, Neymar, Cesc Fàbregas, Sergio Agüero, Radamel Falcao, James Rodríguez and Eric Abidal, Shakira's boyfriend Gerard Piqué and their son Milan.

Dare (band)

Dare are a rock band from Oldham, England, fronted by Thin Lizzy keyboard player Darren Wharton. They formed in 1985, and have released eight albums to date, including the #48 UK album Blood from Stone.

History

Dare was formed in 1985 by Darren Wharton after Thin Lizzy had broken up. By 1987, Dare had gained a local following in Oldham and they were offered recording contracts from A&M, RCA and MCA Records. The band's debut album, Out of the Silence, was released in 1988 on A&M Records. Dare had minor success in Europe, but album sales flagged and the band was dropped from their label after their second album Blood from Stone (1991).

The band have had four songs in the UK Singles Chart: "The Raindance" (#62, 1989), "Abandon" (#71, 1989), "We Don't Need a Reason" (#52, 1991) and "Real Love" (#67, 1991).

The band continues to this day, but have departed from their hard rock and melodic rock roots, and now feature a heavy Celtic influence.

The original lineup featured Brian Cox who played keyboards on the records Out of the Silence and Blood From Stone. Cox later played with D:Ream before becoming a particle physicist and science communicator.

Dare (album)

Dare (released as Dare! in the U.S.) is the third studio album from British synthpop band The Human League. The album was recorded between March and September 1981 and first released in the UK on 16 October 1981, then subsequently in the U.S. in mid-1982.

The style of the album is the result of the drastic change from a experimental avant-garde electronic group into a commercial pop group under Philip Oakey's creative direction following the departure of fellow founding members Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh. Dare became critically acclaimed and has proved to be a genre-defining album, whose influence can be felt in many areas of pop music. The album and its four singles were hugely successful commercially, with the album reaching #1 in the UK and being certified Triple Platinum by the BPI.

Dare is the third studio album from the Human League but differs greatly from their previous two, Reproduction and Travelogue. This is due to a split in the original line up, the subsequent reformation of the band with new personnel and the difference in musical style under Philip Oakey's direction.
