Daniel Roche

Daniel Peter Roche (pronounced rowsh, /ˈroʊʃ/), born 14 October 1999) is an English child actor who played Ben Brockman in the BBC One sitcom Outnumbered from 2007 to 2014.

Life

Roche is the son of Judith (née Haines) and rugby journalist Anthony "Tony" Roche, the youngest of three boys, and attended the Susi Earnshaw Theatre School in Barnet, before moving on to the independent University College School in Hampstead, London.

Career

For his appearances in Outnumbered as Ben, he was nominated for 'Best Male Newcomer' at the 2009 British Comedy Awards. He also appeared in the BBC One show Casualty, the 2008 film Off Season, and a number of television commercials, including one for Kingsmill bread.

Roche played the title role in a new BBC adaptation of Just William, which aired at Christmas 2010. He also appeared in the Sky1 comedy series Little Crackers, as a young Stephen Fry on 20 December 2010.

Daniel Roche (born 1935) is a French social and cultural historian, widely recognized as one of the foremost experts of his generation on the cultural history of France during the later years of the Ancien Régime.

Historiography

Roche has produced over two hundred publications covering a broad variety of subjects within the social and cultural history of France and Europe under the Old Regime.

Roche’s research has had a significant impact on the historical study of the Enlightenment and 18th-century France in general. He has made significant use of hitherto ignored notarial archive sources such as post-mortem inventories, which have yielded insight into the basic material culture of Paris and the rise of consumerism during the 18th century. Roche has largely defined the study of ‘everyday items’ (les choses banales). The social changes that took place over the course of the Enlightenment in France have figured prominently in Roche’s research. The broad scope of Roche’s research into the Enlightenment has included diverse areas such as public institutions and clothing worn by the popular classes.

Daniel

Daniel (Bat for Lashes song)

"Daniel" is a song by English recording artist Bat for Lashes, from her second studio album, Two Suns. It is her best selling single to date, selling over 46,000 copies worldwide. The song was announced as the lead single from Two Suns in January 2009, then released as a digital download single on 1 March 2009, and as a 7" vinyl single on 6 April 2009. The track was written by Natasha Khan and produced by David Kosten, as with all tracks on the album. Ira Wolf Tuton from Yeasayer provided the bass lines for the song and Khan did the rest of the instrumentation herself. Khan said in an interview with The Sun newspaper that "Daniel" is based on a fictional character that she fell in love with as a teenager. The single's cover features Khan with an image of the character Daniel LaRusso, from the film The Karate Kid, painted on her back. A character much like LaRusso also features at the end of the music video which goes with the song. The B-side of the 7" is a cover version of a 1980 single by The Cure.

Daniel (department store)

Daniel is an English department store chain and Royal Warrant holder, with its flagship store situated in central Windsor. It was established in 1901 by Walter James Daniel, and is privately owned.
