Daniel Richard Powter (born February 25, 1971) is a Canadian recording artist, songwriter, and pianist. He is best known for his self-penned hit song "Bad Day" (2005), which spent five weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. Powter was the only solo artist to register a #1 hit in that year without previously having had another song chart in the Hot 100.
Powter grew up in Vernon, in the Okanagan-Shuswap region of British Columbia. As a child, Powter played the violin at the age of 4. He changed to piano at 10 years old after a group of children bullied him and destroyed his violin. Suffering from dyslexia, Powter had trouble in university studying music, and later dropped out in order to pursue his own musical career, learning all songs by ear and recording new melodies that he created. He started writing songs when he was 13 years old.
Powter released his first EP, I'm Your Betty, in 2000. The album, limited to a very small print, contains ten songs, two of which—"More Than I" and "Negative Fashion"—were featured on the television show Higher Ground.
Daniel Powter (also known as DP) is the self-titled debut studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Powter, released on July 26, 2005 in Canada and on April 11, 2006 in the United States. The album debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200 with 89,213 copies sold that week. As of 12 July 2006, Daniel Powter has sold 464,136 copies in the U.S. The album debuted on the Japanese Oricon charts at an extremely low #242. However, the album slowly climbed the charts and peaked at #4. The album eventually became the #18 album of 2006 in Japan with 583,611 copies sold and the highest Western artist on the yearly charts. The album was certified Gold in the U.S. on May 24, 2006.

Daniel is a masculine given name and a surname of Hebrew origin. It means, "God is my judge", and derives from two early biblical figures, primary among them Daniel from the Book of Daniel. It is a common given name for males, and is also used as a surname. It is also the basis for various derived given names and surnames.
The name evolved into over 100 different spellings in countries around the world. Nicknames (Dan, Danny) are common in both English and Hebrew, although in some instances "Dan" may be a complete given name rather than a nickname. The name "Daniil" (Даниил) is common in Russia. Feminine versions (Danielle, Daniela, Daniella, Dani, Danitza) are prevalent as well. The Dutch names "Daan" and "Daniël" are also variations of Daniel. A related surname developed as a patronymic, Daniels. Other surnames derived from "Daniel" include McDaniel and Danielson.
In the United States, the U.S. Social Security Administration reports that Daniel has peaked as the fifth most popular name for newborns in 1985, 1990, 2007, and 2008. The U.S. Census Bureau reported that in the 2000 census, "Daniels" was the 182nd most common surname in the U.S., while "McDaniel" was ranked at 323, and "Daniel" (without a final "s") was ranked at 380.
"Daniel" is a song by English recording artist Bat for Lashes, from her second studio album, Two Suns. It is her best selling single to date, selling over 46,000 copies worldwide. The song was announced as the lead single from Two Suns in January 2009, then released as a digital download single on 1 March 2009, and as a 7" vinyl single on 6 April 2009. The track was written by Natasha Khan and produced by David Kosten, as with all tracks on the album. Ira Wolf Tuton from Yeasayer provided the bass lines for the song and Khan did the rest of the instrumentation herself. Khan said in an interview with The Sun newspaper that "Daniel" is based on a fictional character that she fell in love with as a teenager. The single's cover features Khan with an image of the character Daniel LaRusso, from the film The Karate Kid, painted on her back. A character much like LaRusso also features at the end of the music video which goes with the song. The B-side of the 7" is a cover version of a 1980 single by The Cure.
Daniel is an English department store chain and Royal Warrant holder, with its flagship store situated in central Windsor. It was established in 1901 by Walter James Daniel, and is privately owned.

I’m a little used to calling outside your name
I won't see you tonight so I can keep from going insane
But i don't know enough, I need some kind of lazy day
Hey yeah
I've been fabulous through to find my tattered name
I'll be stewed tomorrow if I don't leave us both the same
I don't know enough, I need some kind of lazy day
Hey yeah
Cause It's hard for me to lose in my life I've found
Only time will tell and I will figure out
That we can baby, we can do the one night stand
And It's hard for me to lose in my life I've found
Outside your skin, right near the fire
That we can baby we can change and feel alright
I'm a little used to wandering outside the rain
You could leave me tomorrow if it suits you just the same
But I don't know enough, I need sun when it leaves the day
Hey yeah
Cause It's hard for me to lose in my life I've found
Only time will tell and I will figure out
That we can baby, we can do the one night stand
And It's hard for me to lose in my life I've found
Outside your skin, right near the fire
