Daniel Davis

Daniel Davis (born November 26, 1945) is an American stage, screen, and television actor. He is known for portraying Niles the butler on the sitcom The Nanny (1993–99) and for his two guest appearances as Professor Moriarty on Star Trek: The Next Generation, affecting an upper class English accent for both roles. Davis also voices the intelligent Cro Magnon, Longhair from the Longhair and Doubledome cartoon shorts from Cartoon Network's Big Pick.

Biography

Davis was born in Gurdon, Arkansas, and grew up in Little Rock. His parents operated a movie theater. His first acting job was at the age of 11, when he was cast in a local broadcast program called Betty's Little Rascals. Davis graduated from Hall High School in Little Rock in 1963. He graduated from the Arkansas Arts Center with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, followed by work with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, and six years with the American Conservatory Theatre. During his time at ACT, he also taught acting.

Daniel Davis (Florida politician)

Daniel Davis (born January 15, 1973) was a Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2014, representing the 13th District from 2010 to 2012 and the 15th District from 2012 to 2014.

History

Davis was born in South Bend, Indiana and moved to Florida in 1979. He attended Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown, Wisconsin, where he graduated with a degree in business. From 2003 to 2010, Davis served on the Jacksonville City Council, and he was selected as the President of the Council from 2007 to 2008.

Florida House of Representatives

In 2010, incumbent Republican State Representative Jennifer Carroll, who represented the 13th District, which included parts of Clay County and Duval County, was unable to seek re-election due to term limits and was selected by Rick Scott, the Republican nominee for Governor, as his running mate. Davis ran to succeed Carroll, and won the nomination of the Republican Party and the general election unopposed.

Daniel Davis (bishop)

The Right Reverend Daniel Gateward Davis (1788–1857) was an abolitionist and the inaugural Bishop of Antigua from 1842 until his death.

Early life

Daniel Davis was born in 1788, the youngest of six children of William and Anne Davis of St Kitts. His father was a planter.

Davis began studies at Pembroke College, Oxford in 1808. There he became an abolitionist and a friend of William Wilberforce.

Ministry

Davis returned to the Leeward Islands and worked strongly, but quietly, for abolition in St. Kitts and Nevis. He later became a minister at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Nevis, and in 1824, became the first minister at the newly built Cottle Church.

He found that St Kitts and Nevis were playing a part on behalf of the abolitionists out of all proportion to their size and importance. This was due to two prominent residents of St Kitts, James Ramsay (who had introduced William Wilberforce to the abolition movement) and James Stephen, a lawyer. Both these men were so outspoken in their abhorrence of slavery that after much persecution from other members of the plantocracy they were forced to leave the island; but not before they had been able over a long period to send detailed accounts of the ill treatment of slaves in the two islands to Wilberforce and other abolitionists fighting for the cause in England. Events in these two small islands became very influential in determining the final victory for abolition.
