Moisture

Moisture refers to the presence of a liquid, especially water, often in trace amounts. Small amounts of water may be found, for example, in the air (humidity), in foods, and in various commercial products. Moisture also refers to the amount of water vapour present in the air.

Moisture control in products

Control of moisture in products can be a vital part of the process of the product. There is a substantial amount of moisture in what seems to be dry matter. Ranging in products from cornflake cereals to washing powders, moisture can play an important role in the final quality of the product. There are two main aspects of concern in moisture control in products: allowing too much moisture or too little of it. For example, adding some water to cornflake cereal, which is sold by weight, reduces costs and prevents it from tasting too dry, but adding too much water can affect the crunchiness of the cereal and the freshness because water content contributes to bacteria growth. Water content of some foods is also manipulated to reduce the number of calories.

Damp (Norwegian band)

Damp is a jazz quartet from Oslo, Norway, originating from the Norwegian Academy of Music. The band changed its name to Chrome Hill With the release of their third album in 2008.

Music

The music on their first two albums can be described as modern, acoustic jazz, with elements of rock. Some musical influences worth mentioning are musicians like Bill Frisell, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman and Albert Ayler. Damp released their second album Hoatzin in March 2005 to much acclaim. Damp has also released Mostly harmless (songs) in 2003. Both on AIM Records.

In 2008 their third album Earthlings was released, now under the band name Chrome Hill. Along with the change of name, came also a change of style. The music was no longer acoustic, with Asbjørn Lerheim's use of electric and baritone guitars, and clearly inspired by Americana and noise rock. The album was released by the Norwegian record label Bolage.

Crew

Asbjørn Lerheim, guitar, baritone guitar, electric guitar. Lerheim is also the leader and co-composer of the vocal jazz quintet Subtonic. He did a tour with New York saxophone player Jon Gordon in Norway 2006. Lerheim has his background from jazz and improvisation studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo.

Damp (mining)

Historically, gases (other than breathable air) in coal mines in Britain were collectively known as "damps". This comes from the Middle Low German word dampf (meaning "vapour"), and was in use by 1480.

Damps included:

  • After damp, a mixture of gases (carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and others) produced following explosions of firedamp or coal dust
  • Black damp, stythe or choke damp, a suffocating mixture of nitrogen and carbon dioxide
  • Fire damp, any mixture of flammable gases, principally methane
  • Stink damp, usually hydrogen sulfide; toxic and explosive, but easily detectable by the smell
  • White damp, carbon monoxide, highly dangerous due to being both toxic and explosive
  • The term damp also gives rise to damp sheet, a heavy curtain used to direct air currents and prevent the buildup of dangerous gases.

    Damp

    by: Daylight

    Blow, take it slow.
    I've been thinking about ghosts.
    Play. Take-away.
It takes from me every day.
In my head and in my chest.
    In my dreams I'm blessed.
    Bleed. Future me.
Hell seems way too close to me.
    Still, I'll never heal.
My skin wasn't meant to feel.
    Play. Take-away.
It takes from me every day.
    Blow, take it slow.
