DJ mixer

A DJ mixer is a type of audio mixing console used by disc jockeys (DJs). DJs playing music for dancers at a club use the mixer to make smooth transitions between different songs which are played on sound sources that are plugged into the mixer. These sound sources could be turntables, CD players, or iPods. A "scratching" DJ uses the mixer in combination with turntables or specialized DJ CD players to create unique sound effects. The DJ mixer also allows the DJ to use headphones to cue the next song before playing it. Most DJ mixers can only accommodate two turntables or CD players but some mixers (such as the ones used in nightclubs) Can accommodate up to four turntables or CD players.

The key features that differentiate a DJ mixer from other types of audio mixers are the ability to redirect (cue) a non-playing source to headphones, in order to find the desired part of a song and the presence of a crossfader, which allows for an easier transition between two sources. DJ mixers are also used to create DJ mixes, which are recorded and sold.

    • DJ mixer, a type of audio mixing console used by disc jockeys
  • DJ mixer, a type of audio mixing console used by disc jockeys
  • Electronic mixer, a device for adding or multiplying signal voltages together
  • Frequency mixer, a telecommunications device used to shift the frequency spectrum of a signal
  • Exhaust mixer

Turbofan engines often feature an exhaust mixer, where the bypass (cold/slow) air is mixed with the core (hot/fast) exhaust gases, before exhausting to atmospheric pressure through a common (mixed flow) propelling nozzle.

    Benefits

The mixer reduces the velocity of the core exiting air, and consequently, reducing the amount of noise produced. Additionally, the temperature of the exhaust is reduced, rendering the thermal signature of the aircraft to be lower as well. This attribute is critical in military aircraft where thermal detection or heat-seeking weapons are used.

Ideally, a mixer is also a performance benefit to increasing thrust. The exhaust thrust from a jet engine is equal to exhaust mass flow times exhaust velocity, ie, Thrust=mv, while the energy to make that thrust is given by Energy=(1/2)m(v^2). A mixer helps reduce the fastest exhaust velocities from the core of the engine, while making the average exhaust velocity faster, producing more thrust with the same energy.

    Mixer dance

A mixer dance, dance mixer or simply mixer is a kind of participation dance in a social dance setting that involves changing partners as an integral part. Mixing can be built into the dance choreography or can be structured to occur more randomly. Mixers allow dancers to meet new partners and allow beginners to dance with more advanced dancers. Some people may take advantage of mixers to assess dance skills of other persons without fear of being stuck with a poor match for an entire dance.

Some mixer dances have traditional names.

The descriptions of "mixing procedures" vary, however there are several common basic rules.

  • The basic rule of dance etiquette "thou shalt never say 'no'" is partially waived during certain procedures of the mixer: if you have already danced with the person, you may smile to each other and skip the choice. The reasoning is that the basic purpose of the mixer to make people dance with many new partners has the precedence.
  • Sometimes a "lost and found" place is designated (e.g., the centre of the dance circle), where unmatched dancers may find each other. Reasons for the occurrence of "unmatched dancers" include the mixing process inherent in the particular dance, gender imbalance, and dancer confusion.
