D'Sound
D'Sound stylized as d'sound is a Norwegian pop band based in Oslo, Norway. The band is composed of lead vocalist Simone Larsen (now known as Simone Eriksrud), bassist Jonny Sjo and drummer Kim Ofstad.
Band history
Drummer Kim Ofstad (born November 25, 1969) and bassist Jonny Sjo (born April 7, 1969) met while both attending Berklee College of Music. D'Sound was formed back in 1993 in Oslo with vocalist Simone Larsen (born August 21, 1970, now known as Simone Eriksrud) at a coincident rehearsal-meeting. Their debut album, Spice of Life, was released in 1997, followed by the successful single "Real Name", and was nominated for two "Spellemannpriser", the Norwegian equivalent of the Brits (United Kingdom) and the Grammys (United States). D'Sound's blend of jazz-pop with funky elements was well received, and they also gained recognition as a live act. Their second album, Beauty Is a Blessing, was released in 1998 and won the "Spellemannpris" for Best Norwegian Pop Group. It received platinum certification in Norway; however, the album was never released internationally. The second single, "Down on the Street" (originally a hit for British jazz-funk band Shakatak) also entered the UK club chart. Musical influence shifted more to a drum-n-bass and modern soul sound in the following albums. The single "Tattooed on My Mind" was released and received with favorable reception in Southeast Asia. After extended touring, the band took a break.
3D audio effect
3D audio effects are a group of sound effects that manipulate the sound produced by stereo speakers, surround-sound speakers, speaker-arrays, or headphones. This frequently involves the virtual placement of sound sources anywhere in three-dimensional space, including behind, above or below the listener.
3-D audio (processing) is the spatial domain convolution of sound waves using Head-related transfer functions. It is the phenomenon of transforming sound waves (using Head-related transfer function or HRTF filters and cross talk cancellation techniques) to mimic natural sounds waves, which emanate from a point in a 3-D space. It allows trickery of the brain using the ears and auditory nerves, pretending to place different sounds in different 3-D locations upon hearing the sounds, even though the sounds may just be produced from just 2 speakers (dissimilar to surround sound). [Note that, transfer function is a function that depict the relationship between an input and the output of a system. It’s a fraction representation with the denominator not equal to 1, if there’s feedback in the system. If the transfer function e.g. Z-transform is localized to the unit circle (or bi-unit circle or tri-unit circle for 2-D and 3-D cases respectively), it then becomes the Multidimensional Fourier Transform (see Multidimensional_transform) or the frequency response of the system.]
Surround sound
Surround sound is a technique for enriching the sound reproduction quality of an audio source with additional audio channels from speakers that surround the listener (surround channels), providing sound from a 360° radius in the horizontal plane (2D) as opposed to "screen channels" (centre, [front] left, and [front] right) originating only from the listener's forward arc.
Surround sound is characterized by a listener location or sweet spot where the audio effects work best, and presents a fixed or forward perspective of the sound field to the listener at this location. The technique enhances the perception of sound spatialization by exploiting sound localization; a listener's ability to identify the location or origin of a detected sound in direction and distance. Typically this is achieved by using multiple discrete audio channels routed to an array of loudspeakers.
There are various surround sound based formats and techniques, varying in reproduction and recording methods along with the number and positioning of additional channels.
