Cue card

Cue cards, also known as note cards, are cards with words written on them that help actors and speakers remember what they have to say. They are typically used in television productions where they can be held off-camera and are unseen by the audience. Cue cards are still currently being used on many late night talk shows including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers and Conan as well as variety and sketch comedy shows like Saturday Night Live due to the practice of last minute script changes. Many other TV shows, including game and reality shows, still use cue cards due to their mobility, as a teleprompter only allows the actor or broadcaster to look directly into the camera.

Cue cards were originally used to aid aging actors. One early use was by John Barrymore in the late 1930s.

Cue cards however did not become widespread until 1949 when Barney McNulty a CBS page and former military pilot, was asked to write ailing actor Ed Wynn's script lines on large sheets of paper to help him remember his script. McNulty volunteered for this duty because his training as a pilot taught him to write very quickly and clearly. McNulty soon saw the necessity of this concept and formed the company "Ad Libs." McNulty continued to be Bob Hope's personal Cue Card man until he stopped performing. McNulty who died in 2000 at the age of 77 was known in Hollywood as the "Cue-Card King".

Cue Card (horse)

Cue Card (foaled 30 April 2006) is a British Thoroughbred racehorse. A specialist steeplechaser, he has won ten of nineteen races, including four at Grade I level. He was a leading performer in National Hunt flat races, winning the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival. He was less successful over hurdles but emerged as a top-class performer when tried over larger obstacles. He won the Haldon Gold Cup, Ascot Chase and Ryanair Chase in the 2012/2013 National Hunt season and recorded his most important success when defeating a strong field in the Betfair Chase in November 2013.

Background

Cue Card is a bay gelding with a white star bred by Roland Crellin at Brookfarm, Penhow. He is one of many successful National Hunt horses sired by the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner King's Theatre.

As a yearling, Cue Card was sent to the sales in February 2007 and was bought for €75,000 by Aiden Murphy. He returned to the sales as a gelding in June 2009, and was sold to Aidan Kennedy for €52,000.

Cue TV

Cue TV was a regional television station in New Zealand which started in October 1996 as Mercury Television. The original majority shareholder in Mercury TV was the CRT (Combined Rural Traders) co-operative, before the station was sold to Family Television Network and then West Media 175, a company based in the United Kingdom with New Zealand broadcasting assets. In 2003, the company was sold to General Manager Tom Conroy who is also Managing Director for the station. The majority of its programming was from the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT2LRN). Making it a nationwide local educational television service. Most of the programming on CUE TV was locally produced, most other programming is from Deutsche Welle. The channel was available nationwide, on Freeview, Sky and Telstra.

From July 2012 CUE TV was New Zealand's only nationwide locally produced educational television service, due to the closing of TVNZ 7. Because Cue TV is still a devoted Southland broadcaster, it is not often referred to as a National public service.

Cue (band)

Cue is a Swedish pop duo group made up of musician Anders Melander and Niklas Hjulström. They have topped the Swedish Singles Chart with "Burnin'".

Anders Melander was a composer working for the Swedish TV and a theatre director at Angeredsteatern. He was also much earlier a member in the progg band Nationalteatern. Niklas Hjulström on the other hand was an actor. The two had cooperated before working on a song and Anders knew Hjulström was a skilled singer. So when Anders needed a singer to sing "Burnin'", a song composed by him for the Swedish TV series "Glappet", he asked Hjulström and they formed together a band called Cue.

Although not strictly intended for release as a hit, just usage for the TV series, the song gained popularity and upon release as the first single for Cue, it hit the Swedish charts at #1 for 4 weeks (14 November to 12 December 1997. It eventually sold 90,000 copies making it one of the most successful singles in the 1990s in Sweden. It also reached #4 in Norway and #9 in Finland.

Cue (audio)

To cue audio is to determine the desired initial playback point in a piece of recorded music. It is technique used often used radio broadcasting and DJing. DJs typically find the desired start place on a record, tape, CD, or other medium by listening to the recording with headphones and manipulating the turntable or other playback controls. DJs use headphones to cue up the start point; this means that the audience cannot hear the playback until the DJ wants them to. Once the recording is cued up to the desired start point, the DJ can then commence the playback of the recording at the desired moment. The goal of cueing is to avoid "dead air", that is, silence.

Slip cue

A subtype of cueing is slip cueing. To slip cue a record, there has to be a felt mat under the record. The DJ finds the desired start point then leaves the stylus at the start point while holding the side of the record, with the turntable spinning. The DJ can then release the record and the music will start immediately.

Glossary of professional wrestling terms

Professional wrestling has accrued a considerable nomenclature through its long existence. Much of it stems from the industry's origins in the days of carnivals and circuses, and the slang itself is often referred to as "carny talk." In the past, wrestlers used such terms in the presence of fans so as not to reveal the worked nature of the business. In recent years, widespread discussion on the Internet has popularized these terms. Many of the terms refer to the financial aspects of pro wrestling in addition to performance-related terms.

    Co-coward

    by: Bettie Serveert

    Tell me 'bout your youth
    Ah, just tell the truth
    Was it nice and smooth
    Or was it a lie
And when you were a child
    Were you young and wild
    Or just undefiled
    Ready to cry
    It should have been me
    You should've believed in me
It's all in the way, you say
    This doesn't happen every day
    It doesn't happen every day
    Living in denial
    Have you lost your smile?
    Well, it takes a while
    Before you'll forgive
And what's that on your sleeve
    Won't you tell me, please
    We can make believe
    Just for a while
