Catharsis (Elis album)

Catharsis is the fourth and final studio album by Elis, released on 27 November 2009 by Napalm Records. It is the first and only album with Sandra Schleret (ex-Dreams of Sanity, Siegfried) as their new lead singer after Sabine Dünser's death; the band released in early 2007 the MCD "Show Me The Way".

Background

After touring throughout 2007 and 2008, the band announced that they had entered the studio to record their fourth studio album, the follow-up to their 2006 release, Griefshire. They spent the rest of 2008 and a part of 2009 recording the new album.

After the sudden death of Elis' original singer Sabine Dünser, the band decided to continue her musical ideas. The album was released in late 2009 on Napalm Records, being the first full release with new singer Sandra Schleret, known from Dreams of Sanity and Siegfried. It contains hard and quick tracks, but is nevertheless emotional.

Reception

Allmusic was critical of "uninspired keyboard melodies using preset sounds" and a general lack of originality but found Sandra Schleret's voice to be "pretty". The Sonic Seducer magazine however delivered a review that called the album fascinating and mentioned the "authenticity of each single note".

Crusader is the sixth studio album by the heavy metal band Saxon released in 1984 (see 1984 in music). The album sold over 2 million copies.

Of the title of the album and the title track, bassist Steve Dawson has said that "In England, there's a paper called the Daily Express, and on the logo at the top of the paper, there's a crusader, and there was a car made by Ford called a Cortina Crusader. That's what started it off. We just liked the name "Crusader". We didn't have any connotations of what it meant as far as history goes, but we just liked the name "Crusader", so we just wrote the lyrics to fit the title, really."

Reception

Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic gave Crusader a rating of three and a half out of five stars. He said that although by the time they released the album, "the band had obviously stopped leading the New Wave of British Heavy Metal with its aggressive, blue-collar biker anthems", the album "as a whole offers a slight improvement over the previous year's Power & the Glory from an overall songwriting perspective". The album reached no.1 in the metal charts in Sweden, Norway, France and Germany. It also charted in the U.S. Billboard chart.

Crusader (horse)

Crusader (1923–1940) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. In a career which lasted from 1925 to 1928 he ran forty-two times and won eighteen races. He was the leading American three-year-old of 1926 when he won a number of important races including the Suburban Handicap, the Belmont Stakes and the Dwyer Stakes. He continued to race for a further two seasons but his form declined after he was injured at Aqueduct Racetrack in June 1927.

Background

Crusader was sired by Man o' War from the mare Star Fancy, from the same family which also produced leading performers such as Whisk Broom, Venetian Way, Timber Country and Dubai Millennium. As a son of Man o' War, Crusader was a representative of the Godolphin Arabian sire line, unlike the majority of modern thoroughbreds, who descend from the Darley Arabian. He was bred by Samuel D. Riddle and was raced by his Glen Riddle Farm. He was usually ridden by either Earl Sande or Albert Johnson.

Racing career

1925: two-year-old season

As a two-year-old in 1925, Crusader won the Potomac Purse at Belmont Park, but his most important win of the year came in the $10,000 Manor Handicap at Laurel Park Racecourse on October 24.

Crusader (Bloor novel)

Crusader is a novel by Edward Bloor which was published on October 15, 1999. This novel was Bloor's follow-up to the award-winning Tangerine.

Plot

The central character in Crusader is 15-year-old Roberta Ritter, who lives in south Florida with her widowed father. Roberta is an aspiring journalist, but works after school and on the weekends at Arcane, the virtual-reality arcade run by her father and uncle.

Roberta is not content with her life so far; her father barely seems to notice her, instead spending much of his free time with his new girlfriend, Suzie. Roberta doesn't approve of the games offered in Arcane, which are all filled with over-the-top violence and racial overtones, nor does she like having to deal with the arcade's often unsavory clientele. Roberta deals with coming of age problems, criticized by her cousin's popular friend Nina for her disinterest in make-up and never having menstruated. She also is forced to come to terms with finding many of the people around her to be motivated by self-interest and the deaths of both an elderly friend and her mother.
