Cruit Island
Cruit Island (Irish: An Chruit or Oileán na Cruite) is a small inhabited island in the Rosses region of County Donegal, Ireland. It is linked to the mainland by bridge.
The island is a major centre for rock climbing on its granite sea-cliffs; the 2002 guidebook lists about 27 single-pitch climbs, mostly established in 1985. Since 2007 another 300 rock climbs have been recorded on the granite sea cliffs all over the island
Culture
Cruit Island has a strong musical heritage. Local musician Seán McBride wrote the famous Irish ballad "The Homes of Donegal" in 1955. The song "Thíos Cois na Trá Domh" originates from the island and remains a very popular song in the Donegal Gaeltacht to this day.
