Cruising (play)

Cruising is a new Australian play written by Alexandra Edmondson. It opened at the Tap Gallery in Darlinghurst, Sydney on 6 March 2008. Prior to opening, the play was responsible for much media debate in Sydney. This was initiated by Daily Telegraph which ran the headline "Stage play 'an insult to Dianne's memory". The newspaper alleged that circumstances in the play were similar to the real life alleged drink spiking and death of Dianne Brimble and contacted Mark Brimble (Dianne Brimble's ex-husband) for a statement. This caused a "media frenzy" in the press and the ABC's Radio National was quick to follow up with an interview of Mr. Brimble and the playwright.2UE and Channel Seven's Sunrise program also joined the debate as did The Australian newspaper. The Sydney play was argued in the national press. The debate concerned whether artists had the right to use recent, real life, horrific events as inspiration for their work.

The Daily Telegraph later reviewed the play and described it as having "a ferocious energy throughout."

Play (Robyn song)

"Play" is a song by Swedish recording artist Robyn from her second studio album My Truth (1999). Robyn wrote the track in collaboration with Ulf Lindström and Johan Ekhé, who also helmed production. BMG Sweden released it as the album's second single on 21 July 1999 with the non-album song "Good Thang" as its B-side. Musically, "Play" contains some world music influences and a "playful" vibe.

"Play" received positive critical response and became Robyn's seventh consecutive top 40 entry on the Sverigetopplistan singles chart, where it peaked at number 31. The singer performed the song live while promoting the parent album, but the single itself received limited promotion. As with the album, "Play" was not serviced outside of Sweden.

Background and composition

"Play" was written by Robyn, Ulf Lindström and Johan Ekhé. Lindström and Ekhé recorded Robyn's vocals and produced the track at Lifeline Studios in Stockholm, Sweden. Almnils Erson, Pär-Ola Claesson, Gunilla Markström and Olle Markström played the strings and Niklas Gabrielsson provided handclaps, while Lindström and Ekhé played all other instruments. The duo also managed arrangement and mixing; both these tasks were done at Lifeline Studios. Britta Bergström and Angela Holland sang backing vocals alongside Robyn. Björn Engelmann and Henrik Jonsson were enlisted to master the track at Cutting Room Studios in Stockholm.

Cruising (film)

Cruising is a 1980 American psychological thriller film written and directed by William Friedkin and starring Al Pacino. The film is loosely based on the novel of the same name, by The New York Times reporter Gerald Walker, about a serial killer targeting gay men, in particular those associated with the leather scene.

Poorly reviewed by critics, Cruising was a modest financial success, though the filming and promotion were dogged by gay rights protesters. The title is a play on words with a dual meaning, as "cruising" can describe police officers on patrol and also cruising for sex. The film is also notable for its open-ended finale, further complicated by the director's incoherent changes in the rough cut and synopsis, as well as due to other production issues.

Plot

In New York City during the middle of a hot summer, body parts of men are showing up in the Hudson River. The police suspect it to be the work of a serial killer who is picking up homosexual men at West Village bars like the Eagle's Nest, the Ramrod, and the Cock Pit, then taking them to cheap rooming houses or motels, tying them up and stabbing them to death.

Cruising (song)

"Cruising" is a pop song by American-British singer Sinitta. The song was released in 1984 as the first single from Sinitta's debut album Sinitta! (1987). It was written by James George Hargreaves and produced by James George Hargreaves and Mick Parker. It was re-released in 1986 as a double A side along with "So Macho", although it was never promoted as the lead track. "Cruising" was re-recorded in 1999 and included on her compilation album The Very Best of...Sinitta. No music video was made for this song.
