Arthur (TV presenter)

Arthur (born Jacques Essebag on 10 March 1966 in Casablanca, Morocco) is a TV presenter, producer and comedian.

After having cancelled his law studies, he began his career as a host on local radio in the Paris region in the late 1980s. In the early 1990s, he found a certain notoriety by presenting programs on Fun Radio, Europe 1 and Europe 2 (Arthur et les pirates, PlanetArthur and Radio Arthur). He became, from 1991, host of television programs, first on France 2 and TF1 (Les Enfants de la télé, La Fureur).

Meanwhile, he started a theater career with two one-man shows, Arthur en vrai (2005) and I Show (2009) and portraying Peter Brochan in Le Dîner de Cons (2007), alongside Dany Boon.

Since the mid-1990s, he has also been an entrepreneur in the audiovisual field. He was, until 2006, vice president of the French subsidiary of production company Endemol. Since 2008, he has been the owner of Ouï FM.

Early years

Jacques Essebag was born on 10 March 1966 in Casablanca. His father, Michel Essebag, was a chartered accountant and his mother a housewife. He has a brother Olivier. Like many Sephardi Jews, his parents left Morocco in 1967, during the Six-Day War and settled in the Paris region, in Massy. After high school, he began studying law at Sceaux, at the Faculty of Law Jean Monnet of the University of Paris-Sud 11. While he repeated his first year, he made his first radio appearance, on the local radio station Massy-Pal, on which he hosted the show Tonus which provided sports scores for the city.

History of RISC OS

RISC OS, the computer operating system developed by Acorn Computers for their ARM-based Acorn Archimedes range, was originally released in 1987 as Arthur 0.20, soon followed by Arthur 0.30, and Arthur 1.20. The next version, Arthur 2, became RISC OS 2 and was completed and made available in April 1989. RISC OS 3 was released with the very earliest version of the A5000 in 1991 and contained a series of new features. By 1996 RISC OS had been shipped on over 500,000 systems.

RISC OS 4 was released by RISCOS Ltd (ROL) in July 1999, based on the continued development of OS 3.8. ROL had in March 1999 licensed the rights to RISC OS from Element 14 (the renamed Acorn) and eventually from the new owner, Pace Micro Technology. According to the company, over 6,400 copies of OS 4.02 on ROM were sold up until production was ceased in mid-2005.

RISC OS Select was launched in May 2001 by ROL. This is a subscription scheme allowing users access to the latest OS updates. These upgrades are released as soft-loadable ROM images, separate to the ROM where the boot OS is stored, and are loaded at boot time. Select 1 was shipped in May 2002, with Select 2 following in November 2002 and the final release of Select 3 in June 2004. ROL released the ROM based OS 4.39 the same month, dubbed RISC OS Adjust as a play on the RISC OS GUI convention of calling the three mouse buttons 'Select', 'Menu' and 'Adjust'. ROL sold its 500th Adjust ROM in early 2006.

Arthur (Ghosts 'n Goblins)

Sir Arthur (Japanese: アーサー, Hepburn: Āsā) is a fictional character and the primary protagonist from Capcom's Ghosts 'n Goblins video game series. He first appeared in the 1985 video game Ghosts 'n Goblins, and has been well received since then. The character is also featured in several other Capcom video games outside the Ghosts 'n Goblins series.

Appearances

In the Ghosts 'n Goblins series, Arthur is introduced as a knight who needs to rescue Princess Prin Prin (Princess Guinevere in the English version) who was kidnapped by Satan, king of Demon World.

Outside of his own series, Arthur is a playable character in the shooter Cannon Spike, the tactical role-playing games Namco × Capcom and Project X Zone, and in the fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, as well as on its updated version, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. He also appears as an assist character in the fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, and makes a cameo appearance in the fighting game Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars. In addition, his costume can be worn in the sports game We Love Golf! and the action-adventure game Dead Rising 2. He also appears in Archie Comics' Worlds Unite crossover between its Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog titles, where he is one of many Capcom and Sega heroes recruited by Zero and Bunnie Rabbot to battle Sigma.

Crisis (novel by Jorge Majfud)

Crisis is the seventh book of the Uruguayan American writer and literature professor Jorge Majfud. This fourth installment is based on the experiences of the author both as a migrant and a Latino out.

Plot Summary

This novel focuses on Latin-American immigrants’ drama in the US, particularly undocumented experiences. In a deeper sense, Crisis talks about the universal experiences of people getting away from a geographical region, evidently seeking a better way of life but in truth, running away, escaping from realism distinguished as unjust but solved rarely by moving to another place.

Escaping, moving, and missing persons are like regular characters in the novel of Jorge Majfud, which record their courses to their own identity’s discovery in various situations and realities. The characters within the novel encounter obstacles in terms of cultural, economic and moral cruelties as unavoidable factors of their experiences – as existential and social living beings.

Crisis (Fleetway)

Crisis was a British comic book magazine published from 1988 to 1991 as an experiment by Fleetway to see if intelligent, mature, politically and socially aware comics were saleable in the United Kingdom. The comic was initially published fortnightly, and was one of the most visible components of the late-80s British comics boom, along with Deadline, Revolver, and Toxic!.

History

Crisis was Fleetway's response to the success of Deadline. David Bishop, in his Thrill Power Overload, comments "2000 AD had once represented the cutting edge of British comics, but was now in danger of looking staid and old fashioned next to Deadline".

Crisis would offer to make the work creator-owned, which might the chance for royalties and greater copyright control, which was a departure from the way they had done business up until then. They also planned to turn the stories into American comic books which would sell better on the other side of the Atlantic, although ultimately only the first few titles got this treatment and the title moved to shorter stories after issue #14.
