Crab trap

Crab traps are used to bait, lure, and catch crabs for commercial or recreational use. Crabbing or crab fishing is the recreational hobby and commercial occupation of fishing for crabs. Different types of traps are used depending on the type of crab you are fishing for, geographic location, and personal preference.

History

Crabbing has been a viable food source since Native Americans lived and fished on the Delmarva Peninsula. The Chesapeake Bay, which is known for their Chesapeake Bay blue crabs (Callinectes sapidus) derives its name from "Chesepiook", a Susquehannock tribe word that means "Great Water". These Susquehannock natives led European settlers to some of the best places to catch crabs. Even early treaties between European settlers and Native Americans included provisions for the rights of "Hunting, Crabbing, Fowling, and Fishing." Since then, generations of watermen made their living harvesting Crabs and other resources along the Chesapeake Bay developing the most efficient method to catch crabs resulting in modern crab traps.

Crab Trap (Spanish: El vuelco del cangrejo) is a 2009 Colombian drama film directed by Oscar Ruiz Navia. The film was selected as the Colombian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards, but it didn't make the final shortlist.

Plot

Daniel arrives in the Afro-Colombian community of La Barra on Colombia’s Pacific coast looking for a boat to leave the country. He intends to stay for only a few days, but a strange shortage of fish has affected La Barra and the fishermen have been sailing far out to sea in hopes of finding new resources. These circumstances make Daniel’s search more difficult. In the meantime the villagers have their own issues: Cerebro, the leader of the community, is trying to adjust to the advent of modernity.
