Countdown

A countdown is a sequence of backward counting to indicate the time remaining before an event is scheduled to occur. NASA commonly employs the term "T-minus" during the preparation for and anticipation of a rocket launch, and even "E-minus" for events that involve spacecraft that are already in space, where the "T" could stand for "Test" or "Time", and the "E" stands for "Encounter", as with a comet or some other space object. Other events for which countdowns are commonly used include the detonation of an explosive, the start of a race, the start of the New Year, or any anxiously anticipated event. An early use of a countdown once signaled the start of a Cambridge University rowing race. The first known association with rockets was in the 1929 German science fiction movie Die Frau im Mond (English: Woman in the Moon) written by Thea von Harbou and directed by Fritz Lang in an attempt to increase the drama of the launch sequence of the story's lunar-bound rocket.

Rocketry

A countdown is a carefully devised set of procedures ending with the ignition of a rocket's engine. Depending on the type of vehicle used, countdowns can start from 72 to 96 hours before launch time.

Countdown (Hyde song)

"Countdown" is the sixth by Japanese singer Hyde, and the first single from his second solo album Faith.

It was released on 5 October 2005, and was Hyde's first solo single since 2003. This is the first single co-produced by Hyde and K.A.Z and charted at #1 on the Oricon ranking charts the week it was released.

The B-side to this single is "Evergreen (Dist.)", a rock version of Hyde's very first solo single that was also featured on his first solo album, Roentgen (released March 27, 2002). Countdown also featured in Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2, a Nintendo DS game.

Reception

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album 4 stars and stated "The set matches Ervin with a remarkable rhythm section... The music is quite moody, soulful, and explorative yet not forbidding".

Heavy (aeronautics)

The term heavy is used, with exceptions noted below, during all radio transmissions between air traffic control and any aircraft which has been assigned a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) rating of 136 tonnes (300,000 lb) or more. Aircraft with a MTOW rating between 7 t and 136 t are considered medium and aircraft with a MTOW rating less than 7 t are considered light. In the US, the FAA uses a slightly different categorization. Aircraft capable of maximum takeoff weights more than 41,000 pounds (19,000 kg) and less than 300,000 pounds are considered large.

Such "heavy" aircraft over 136 t create wake turbulence from the wings. The term is mostly used around airports during take off and landing, incorporated into their call sign so as to warn other aircraft that they need extra distance to avoid this wake turbulence. All wide-body aircraft, except for the Airbus A300B1 (MTOW of 291,000 pounds (132,000 kg), only two built and retired in 1990) and the Airbus A380 and Antonov An-225 (which are classified in the even larger category of super), are thus classified as heavy. Certain variants of the narrow-bodied Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8 also were considered "heavy" based on MTOW.

Heavy (TV series)

Heavy is an American documentary series that airs on A&E. The series chronicles the weight loss efforts of people suffering from severe obesity. The first episode aired January 17, 2011. The first season ended on April 4, 2011.

Overview

Each 60-minute episode chronicles six months in the lives of two people who are facing life-threatening health consequences as a result of their obesity. In episodes 1 through 5, the individuals are sent to a fitness camp in Texas for the first month, undergoing a strict program of diet and exercise and learning to change their attitudes about food. For the remaining five months they continue to lose weight at home, with the help of personal trainers, but can be called back to the camp if periodic weigh-ins reveal that they are not making progress. There are no weigh-ins during the sixth month except for the last day, with the goal of encouraging the participants to make the transition back to daily life outside of the weight loss program.
