"Could It Be Magic" is a song with lyrics written by Adrienne Anderson and music composed by Barry Manilow, based on chord and melodical progressions of Frédéric Chopin's Prelude in C Minor, Opus 28, Number 20. Initially released in 1971, it was later rerecorded, given an album release in 1973 and a single release in 1975. This became one of Manilow's first hits. The song has been covered by a number of other artists over the years, most successfully by Donna Summer in 1976 and by Take That in 1992.
As Manilow had only composed or arranged commercial jingles up to that point, he was unproven as a pop-song arranger and was therefore not permitted to arrange the original backing track himself upon its first release in 1971, (see composer's autobiography Sweet Life) Instead, this early version of the song was produced under the hand of Tony Orlando and recorded by Featherbed, a "ghost" group consisting of session musicians.
Originally released on the Bell Records label, the composer hated the Tony Orlando arrangement so severely (see Sweet Life) that, as he says in numerous subsequent interviews, he was appreciative of the fact that the song went nowhere on the charts.
Could It Be may refer to:
"Could It Be" was the Maltese entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1991, performed in English by Georgina & Paul Giordimaina. This was Malta's return to the Contest after having withdrawn following the Eurovision Song Contest 1975.
The song is a love duet, with the singers describing their feelings about each other and try to establish whether what they have is a serious relationship ("our rainbow's end") or whether they are perhaps just "playing 'let's pretend'". The chorus features both singers pleading with the other to "call me" and explaining that "If I'm to blame at all, I'll say I'm sorry", implying that this ambiguity was brought about by a misunderstanding.
A Maltese language version was also recorded, titled Sejjaħ u ssibni.
The song was performed third on the night (following Iceland's Stefán & Eyfi with "Draumur um Nínu" and preceding Greece's Sophia Vossou with "I Anixi"). At the close of voting, it had received 106 points, placing 6th in a field of 22, Malta's best result by far at the time.
The Bee Gees Sing and Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs is the debut album of Australian/English pop band Bee Gees. (1967's Bee Gees' 1st was the international debut album), released under the artist title "Barry Gibb & the Bee Gee's [sic]". It was released in November 1965 on the Australian Leedon label. It is a compilation of most of the Gibb brothers' singles that had been released over the previous three years in Australia, which accounts for the many different styles of music on it.
Only five new songs were recorded for the album: "I Was A Lover, A Leader of Men," "And the Children Laughing", "I Don't Think It's Funny", "How Love Was True" and "To Be or Not to Be." Barry had more than enough unrecorded songs for an all new-LP, but the rest of the album was instead made up of nine lesser-known singles. Bill Shepherd put the songs into a satisfying playing order.
Instrumentally, Barry plays rhythm guitar, and Maurice probably plays the other guitars, like the leads in "I Was A Lover, A Leader of Men" and "How Love Was True", Whether Maurice managed to play the acoustic lead guitar in "I Don't Think It's Funny" or the fast piano in "To Be Or Not To Be" is less certain, The organ on "I Was A Lover, A Leader of Men" and "And The Children Laughing" is either Robin or Maurice (Robin did not play instruments, so more than likely it was Maurice). Though un-credited on the back of this album it is confirmed that Bee Gees friend, Trevor Gordon played lead guitar on "Peace of Mind", "Wine And Women" and "Follow The Wind". Gordon later released several recordings under the name, Trevor Gordon and Bee Gees. Gordon went on to find success with Graham Bonnet in the UK based duo, The Marbles, who had a hit with "Only One Woman" written by the Bee Gees, and produced by Barry and Maurice with Robert Stigwood.
Oh baby it's been so long
I've waited so long
And now that I have you
I want you to come
Come come come into my arms
Oh baby I need you, I need you
Come, come, come into my arms again
Spirits move me
Every time I'm near you
Whirling like a cyclone in my mind
Oh sweet Peter, angel of my lifetime
Answer to all answers I can find
Baby, I love you, come, come
Come into my arms
Let me know the wonder of all of you
Baby, I want you now, now
Now, and hold on fast
Could this be a magic at last?
Baby, take me high upon a hillside
High up where the stallion meets the sun
I could love you, build my world around you
Never leave you till my life is done
Baby, I love you, come, come
Come into my arms
Let me know the wonder of all of you
And baby, I want you now, now
Oh now, oh now, and hold on fast
Could this be a magic at last?
Baby, I want you, come, come
Now come and hold on fast
Could this be a magic at last?
Could it be magic? yeah
Hold on, come into my arms
Could this be a magic at last?
Could it be magic?
Come, c'mon, c'mon, hey
Come into my arms
Oh, let me know the wonder of all of you
Baby, I want you now, now, oh now
Oh now and hold on fast
Oh, could this be the magic at last?
Could it be the magic?
Oh hold on to me
Don't let go
Come into my life
Don't let go
