Corruption

Corruption is a form of dishonest or unethical conduct by a person entrusted with a position of authority, often to acquire personal benefit. Corruption may include many activities including bribery and embezzlement, though it may also involve practices that are legal in many countries.Government, or 'political', corruption occurs when an office-holder or other governmental employee acts in an official capacity for personal gain.

The word corrupt when used as an adjective literally means "utterly broken". The word was first used by Aristotle and later by Cicero who added the terms bribe and abandonment of good habits. Stephen D. Morris, a professor of politics, writes that [political] corruption is the illegitimate use of public power to benefit a private interest.

Economist Ian Senior defines corruption as an action to (a) secretly provide (b) a good or a service to a third party (c) so that he or she can influence certain actions which (d) benefit the corrupt, a third party, or both (e) in which the corrupt agent has authority. Daniel Kaufmann, from the World Bank, extends the concept to include 'legal corruption' in which power is abused within the confines of the law — as those with power often have the ability to make laws for their protection.

Copkiller

Copkiller or Copkiller (l'assassino dei poliziotti), also known as Corrupt and The Order of Death, is a 1983 Italian crime thriller film directed by Roberto Faenza and starring Harvey Keitel and musician John Lydon, the singer for the bands Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd.. It is based on Hugh Fleetwood's novel The Order of Death, which was set to be the original title of the production. Fleetwood also adapted and wrote the screenplay with Faenza and Ennio de Concini. The music was composed by Ennio Morricone.

According to IMDb it was filmed in 1981 and released in 1983 in Italy and 1984 in USA. It is Lydon's only starring role in film to date.

Plot synopsis

Lieutenant Fred O'Connor (Keitel) and his partner, police officer Bob Carvo (Mann), are a pair of corrupt cops who have spent their illegal earnings on an uptown New York City flat. A friction starts between them, as Carvo feels guilty about their scams and wants to abandon their society. Meanwhile, the police force of the city is trying to catch a serial killer who has chosen corrupt policemen as targets. The man, who has been nicknamed "Cop Killer" by the press, has apparently been watching O'Connor's every movements.

Plot

After decades of street violence, two gangs have finally truced. MJ (Silkk The Shocker) has finally found a way to get out of the deadly hood him and his sister Jodi are living in. Corrupt (Ice-T) the only person standing in MJ's way of leaving. This will result in a deadly rampage between two gangs.

Corrupt was received poorly. Ice T, himself, had bashed the film on the commentary. It received low ratings. On Rotten Tomatoes it got 2 rotten (bad) reviews out of 2 so it basically got a 0% on the tomatometer.

Cops (film)

Cops is a 1922 comedy short silent film about a young man (Buster Keaton) who accidentally gets on the bad side of the entire Los Angeles Police Department during a parade, and is chased all over town. It was written and directed by Edward F. Cline and Keaton.

Background and plot

This very Kafka-esque film was filmed during the rape-and-murder trial of Fatty Arbuckle, a circumstance that may have influenced the short's tone of hopeless ensnarement. Even though the central character's intentions are good, he cannot win, no matter how inventively he tries. He gets into various scraps with police officers throughout the film. Eventually, he unwittingly throws a bomb into a police parade and ends up being chased by a horde of cops.

At the end of the film, Keaton's character locks up the cops in the police station. However, the girl he is trying to woo disapproves of his behavior and gives him the cold shoulder. Therefore, he unlocks the police station and is immediately pulled in by the cops. The film ends with the title "The End" written on a tombstone with Keaton's pork pie hat propped on it.
