Corona is an Italian eurodance act, fronted by Olga Maria De Souza. Originally produced by Francesco "Checco" Bontempi (a.k.a. Lee Marrow) (1st-2nd album), it found success in 1993 with the worldwide hits ”The Rhythm of the Night” and “Baby Baby”. Later producers include Francesco Conte and Paolo Dughero.

History

"The Rhythm of The Night"

Debut single was "The Rhythm of the Night", released in Italy in November 1993 on Roberto Zanetti’s DWA record label, and became an instant hit. It stayed at number 1 on the Italian music chart for eight consecutive weeks. However, the song was not released elsewhere until the following year. A remixed version of the song became a number 2 hit in the United Kingdom in September 1994.

Like several early 1990s Eurodance/Hi-NRG songs that eventually became American hits, such as "Get Ready For This", "Twilight Zone" and "Tribal Dance" by 2 Unlimited and "Strike It Up", "I Don't Know Anybody Else" and "Everybody Everybody" by Black Box, "The Rhythm of The Night" did not become popular in the United States until well after its success had peaked in Europe. However, by spring 1995, the song was all over American radio and clubs, eventually reaching #11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Stratigraphic unit

A stratigraphic unit is a volume of rock of identifiable origin and relative age range that is defined by the distinctive and dominant, easily mapped and recognizable petrographic, lithologic or paleontologic features (facies) that characterize it.

Units must be mappable and distinct from one another, but the contact need not be particularly distinct. For instance, a unit may be defined by terms such as "when the sandstone component exceeds 75%".

Lithostratigraphic units

Sequences of sedimentary and volcanic rocks are subdivided on the basis of their lithology. Going from smaller to larger in scale, the main units recognised are Bed, Member, Formation, Group and Supergroup.

Bed

A bed is a lithologically distinct layer within a member or formation and is the smallest recognisable stratigraphic unit. These are not normally named, but may be in the case of a marker horizon.

Member

A member is a named lithologically distinct part of a formation. Not all formations are subdivided in this way and even where they are recognized, they may only form part of the formation.

1994 Group

The 1994 Group was a coalition of smaller research-intensive universities in the United Kingdom, founded in 1994 to defend these universities' interests following the creation of the Russell Group by larger research-intensive universities earlier that year. The 1994 Group originally represented seventeen universities, rising to nineteen, and then dropping to eleven. The Group started to falter in 2012, when a number of high performing members left to join the Russell Group. The 1994 Group ultimately dissolved in November 2013.

Role

The group sought "to represent the views of its members on the current state and the future of higher education through discussions with the government, funding bodies, and other higher education interest groups" and "[made] its views known through its research publications and in the media".

University Alliance, million+, GuildHE and the Russell Group were its fellow university membership groups across the UK higher education sector.

Corona (footballer)

Miguel Ángel García Pérez-Roldán (born 12 February 1981), known as Corona, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for A-League club Brisbane Roar FC usually as an attacking midfielder.

Club career

Real Madrid / Zaragoza

Corona was born in Talavera de la Reina, Toledo. A product of La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid, he played for their C and B-teams, the latter competing in the third division.

Corona was signed by Real Zaragoza in January 2001, but only appeared in 33 top flight games for the Aragonese over the course of four seasons, with loans in the second level in between (one full season with Polideportivo Ejido, six months with Albacete Balompié).

Almería

In 2006–07 Corona was loaned again, now to UD Almería, being instrumental in the Andalusia side's first-ever promotion to the top level and reuniting with former Zaragoza teammate Fernando Soriano. The move was made permanent for the following campaign, and both players were instrumental as the club went on to finish eighth in its maiden season in the main category.

Corona (Takemitsu)

Corona is an experimental classical composition for pianist by Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu. It was finished in 1962.

Composition

Takemitsu, who was a largely self-taught composer, was a composer that focuses most of his career (and especially his early works) on an impressionistic style that he would further develop as he gained artistic maturity. After coming back from studying Toshi Ichiyanagi, who had been learning with American avant-garde composer John Cage, he entered a period of what scholars have entitled the Cage shock. In this period, Takemitsu became particularly fascinated with graphic scores, which are scores that reject any of the traits in traditional musical notation. In this way, traditional notation provided a way to discern and to identify compositions, as notes are merely a large set of rules by which a particular musical piece has to be performed. However, graphic scores allowed the performer more freedom, and each performer made each composition's performance unique and particular, as the performer alone must make important decision when attempting to understand and to realize the composition.

Corona (fictional world)

Corona is the name of the fantasy world in which R.A. Salvatore's The DemonWars Saga and The Highwayman are set.

Geography

It can be noted that the world of Corona bears a striking resemblance to Eastern Canada. Major rivers as well as landmasses are shown. The area titled as Alpinador is in the same location and has the same basic shape as Labrador.

Several populated areas of Corona have been introduced in the novels to date.

Alpinador

Alpinador is the home of the Alpinadorans, a somewhat barbaric race of tall, strong men and women. The ranger Andacanavar is an Alpinadoran. This is the northernmost and most mountainous known nation of Corona. As a result, it is bitingly cold most of the year.

Andur'Blough Inninness

Also known as the 'Valley of Mists' or the 'Forest of Cloud', Andur'Blough Inninness is the hidden home of the Touel'alfar, the winged elves who raise and train the few human rangers of the world. The land is ruled by Lady Dasslerond, the queen of the Touel'alfar. It is the place where Elbryan Wyndon, the Nightbird, was raised and trained after his home, Dundalis, was destroyed. After the events of the novel Immortalis, Lady Dasslerond is replaced by Belli'mar Juraviel as ruler.
