Connie Ferguson

Connie Ferguson (née Masilo) is a South African actress famous for acting as Karabo Moroka for about 16 years in the soap Generations and subsequently as Mavis Mabaso in Rockville which she created with her husband. In October 2014 she agreed to reprise her role as Karabo after a three year absence from Generations.

Harry Ferguson Research Limited was a British company founded by Harry Ferguson who was mostly known as "the father of the modern farm tractor". He was also a pioneer aviator, becoming one of the first to build and fly his own aeroplane in Ireland, and also went on develop four-wheel drive systems for cars including pioneering their use in Formula One racing cars. The company was based in Siskin Drive, in Coventry, England.

History

Harry Ferguson was part owner of the famous Massey Ferguson tractor company, but grew intrigued with the research of Tony Rolt and Freddie Dixon. In 1950, they founded Ferguson Research Ltd. Their offers of Ferguson 4wd to carmakers were ignored. Over the next few years, Ferguson sold off his interest in Massey-Ferguson and turned to the construction of a Coventry-Climax powered 4WD Formula One car in 1960.

Despite the death of Ferguson later that year, the Ferguson P99 was raced during 1961 season in UK F1 races by Rob Walker's team. The car raced only once in the World Championship at the British Grand Prix. However the car won a non-championship race, the 1961 International Gold Cup at Oulton Park with Stirling Moss as the driver. As of today, this is the only victory of a four-wheel drive car in F1 (and incidentally the last race won by Moss in Europe), with the technology banned in 1983. Despite its promising beginnings this front-engined car was soon made obsolete by mid-engined cars.

Connie is a 1985 British television drama series. Made for ITV by Central Television, it starred Stephanie Beacham in the title role. 13 episodes were made which were shown throughout the summer of 1985.

Series history

Written by Ron Hutchinson as a dry commentary on Thatcherite values in the 1980s, the series was set in the East Midlands textile industry and tells the story of a woman returning to the United Kingdom from Greece after eight years in self-imposed exile. She is determined to claw back control of her chain of high street clothes shops that are now controlled by her stepsister, and also get her foot back into the "House Of Bea", a family-owned garment factory run by her father and stepmother, which is now losing money.

The series is chiefly memorable for the high-octane performance of Stephanie Beacham as the eponymous Connie, chewing the scenery and snarling her way through such camp, metaphorical 80s big business dialogue as "My spoon is going into the gravy, my snout is going into the trough. I'm having some of that."

Connie (Burmese: ကော်နီ, Burmese pronunciation: [kɔ̀nì]; born Yadana Tun (ရတနာထွန်း, [jədənà tʰʊ́ɴ])) is a Burmese singer, known for her Burmese language covers of American heavy metal and pop songs. She was most popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Connie got her start as a background vocalist for the New Wave band. In the mid-1980s, she was signed by successful cover songwriter Thukhamein Hlaing for three albums. She released her first album, Tarzan, in 1986, and achieved success with her follow-up album Ninja.
