Comfort in Sound is the fourth studio album by the British rock band Feeder, released on 21 October 2002 and also the first to be released by the band after the suicide of drummer Jon Lee earlier in the year. The album was recorded at RAK Studios in London during most of 2002, and was produced by Gil Norton.
The band returned to live performance after Lee's suicide, playing low-key slots at various festivals in the United Kingdom, before releasing the single "Come Back Around" and then the album. Three further singles—"Just the Way I'm Feeling", "Forget About Tomorrow" and "Find the Colour"—followed the album's release. The album received positive reviews from the music press and was received well by the public, reaching number six on the UK Albums Chart. Although charting one place lower than predecessor Echo Park, Comfort in Sound had a much stronger chart run of 36 weeks on the weekly top 75 album chart, in comparison to the nine weeks of Echo Park.
Comfort in Sound is seen as a major commercial success, selling 503,706 units in the United Kingdom and giving the band their second top ten single, "Just the Way I'm Feeling". Inside the inlay, there were also a number of illustrations by Aya Takayano, including a picture per song, each with a lyrical extract from four of the album's songs. The first three of these were released as singles from the album, all in their order of appearance in the booklet, which lead to beliefs that the fourth song "Comfort in Sound", would be the fourth single, only for "Find the Colour" to be released in its place instead.
"Comfort in Sound", is the last single to be taken from Feeder's 2002 album of the same name. It was only available at first on the band's arena tour in December 2003, and was limited to 3,000 copies. A few weeks after the tour, the single was available for download from "Feederweb" with downloadable PDF artwork.
The inclusion of the original "Piece By Piece" video was the first time it was ever released in the UK.
It made the B-list of BBC Radio 1's playlist- the first time for a download only single in which the CD was not commercially available or not available at all.
After the release of "Find the Colour" which was the band's last commercial single from the album, the band released the title track as a limited edition single, only available during the 2003 Comfort in Sound tour.
The music video features various montages in black and white from the band's shows over the years, it is the last time to date the band's late drummer Jon Lee appears in a music video, and the first time for touring guitarist Dean Tidey, who would later re-appear in the video for Pushing the Senses, which used a similar format.
We fall right in and suffer the sins
Try to pull things round when the air starts to thin
We nurse regrets, restricted in our own belief
A new disease
We shake new hands, the victims of fate
We tread new ground misfortune conveys
You tear yourself apart
Wishing to be born again
A different man
Comfort in sound
Its all around
Ease back the strain
Come heal your pain
Comfort in sound
Its all around you now
Comfort in sound
We suffer love together as one
An empty heart with nowhere to turn
We find ourselves looking back another way
A brand new day
Yeah
Solution gone, emotions ablaze
A life so strong just faded away
You find yourself searching for a quick release
A new belief
