Cloud 9 (play)

Cloud 9 is a two-act play written by British playwright Caryl Churchill, workshopped with the Joint Stock Theatre Company in late 1978 and premiered at Dartington College of Arts, Devon, on 14 February 1979.

The two acts of the play form a contrapuntal structure. Act I is set in British colonial Africa in the Victorian era, and Act II is set in a London park in 1979. However, between the acts only twenty-five years pass for the characters. Each actor plays one role in Act I and a different role in Act II - the characters who appear in both acts are played by different actors in the first and second. Act I parodies the conventional comedy genre and satirizes Victorian society and colonialism. Act II shows what could happen when the restrictions of both the comic genre and Victorian ideology are loosened.

The play uses controversial portrayals of sexuality and obscene language, and establishes a parallel between colonial and sexual oppression. Its humour depends on incongruity and the carnivalesque, and helps to convey Churchill's political message about accepting people who are different and not dominating them or forcing them into particular social roles.

Cloud Nine (tensegrity sphere)

Cloud Nine is the name Buckminster Fuller gave to his proposed airborne habitats created from giant geodesic spheres, which might be made to levitate by slightly heating the air inside above the ambient temperature.

Geodesic spheres (structures of triangular components arranged to make a sphere) become stronger as they become bigger, due to how they distribute stress over their surfaces. As a sphere gets bigger, the volume it encloses grows much faster than the mass of the enclosing structure itself. Fuller suggested that the mass of a mile-wide geodesic sphere would be negligible compared to the mass of the air trapped within it. He suggested that if the air inside such a sphere were heated even by one degree higher than the ambient temperature of its surroundings, the sphere could become airborne. He calculated that such a balloon could lift a considerable mass, and hence that 'mini-cities' or airborne towns of thousands of people could be built in this way.

Cloud Nine (Kottonmouth Kings album)

Cloud Nine is the ninth official album from the Kottonmouth Kings, released on August 28, 2007. Band member Daddy X stated that Cloud Nine is the "most adventurous" Kottonmouth Kings album release to date.Cloud Nine features artists such as Tech N9ne, the Insane Clown Posse, and Cypress Hill. It includes a bonus DVD containing videos for the songs "City 2 City", "Livin' Proof", "Think 4 Yourself", and others that not only include the Kottonmouth Kings, but also that of their newly signed labelmates. The album title was thought up by band member Pakelika. It is meant to show that it is their ninth official album and also referred to the so-called "greatness of being high with the heavens". As of the week of September 15, 2007 the album debuted at number 44 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling about 14,000 copies in its first week, #10 on the Billboard's Top Rap Albums, and #3 on the Top Independent Albums chart. The albums also made it to #45 on the Billboard Comprehensive Albums, #44 on the Billboard's Top Internet Albums, #14 on the Top Modern Rock/Alternative Albums, #14 on the Top Rock Albums and #13 on the Tastemakers chart.
