"Close to Me" is the second single by English alternative rock group The Cure from their sixth studio album The Head on the Door, released on 17 September 1985. On its original release, the single was most successful in Ireland, peaking at #4, and also reached #7 in Australia and number 24 in the UK Singles Chart. It was remixed in 1990 for their remix album Mixed Up, and the remix was released as a single, peaking at #13 on the UK singles chart and #97 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US in January 1991.

    History

Three versions of "Close to Me" were released in 1985: the original album version, the 7" single mix version (the one most familiar from air and video play, and from compilation appearance) and the 12" extended mix version. The album version does not feature the distinctive brass section part present on all of the other versions, which was adapted from a traditional New Orleans funeral march melody and played by horn section Rent Party for the single mix.

    Close to Me (G-Unit song)

"Close to Me" has been confirmed as the third and final official single from G-Unit's second album, T.O.S: Terminate on Sight.

    Background

Despite T.O.S.: Terminate on Sight doing decent sales G-Unit managed to release a third single. In an interview with G-Unit, Tony Yayo explained the track "Straight Outta Southside" is his favorite track off the album, with "T.O.S. (Terminate on Sight)" being Lloyd Banks' and "Close to Me" being 50 Cent's, hence "Close to Me" being the third single.

Originally "Party Ain't Over" was going to be the fourth and final single, but due to unimpressive sales of the album a fourth single was never made, which makes "Close To Me" the third and final single from the album.

    Music video

The music video premiered on This Is 50. The music video is animated, like the video for "Piggy Bank" and the song "My Buddy".

  • Gō (unit)

The () is a traditional Japanese unit of area and volume. It expresses a tenth of a particular quantity.

As a unit expressing area, one gō is equivalent to a tenth of a bu or tsubo. This is approximately equal to 0.3306 .

As a unit expressing volume, one gō is equivalent to a tenth of a shō. This is approximately equal to 0.1809 liters.

Although it is no longer used officially, rice and sake are often measured in . For example, rice cookers come with a 1 (180ml) measuring cup used to indicate the serving size for one person. As a rule of thumb, one is equivalent to about 150 grams of Japanese short grain rice. A is 1/1000 of a koku, the base unit which was historically defined as the amount of rice needed to feed one person for a year. It is a very old unit of measurement and recently there has been some attempts of revival which have met with success; several more things are now being measured in like traditional Japanese fish (especially the dangerous Fugu) and several restaurants have re-instated it as part of a more traditional way of viewing the country's culture.

    G-Unit

G Unit (short for Guerilla Unit) is an American hip hop group originating from South Jamaica, Queens, New York, formed by longtime friends and East Coast rappers 50 Cent, Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks. The group released their debut album Beg for Mercy, in 2003 went on to sell over 2,000,000 copies in the US and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album, which followed the success of 50 Cent's major-label debut Get Rich or Die Tryin', served as a platform for Banks, Buck and Yayo to release their respective solo debut albums, The Hunger for More (2004), Straight Outta Cashville (2004), Thoughts of a Predicate Felon (2005) and The Documentary (2005). In 2008, the group released their second album T·O·S (Terminate on Sight).

During Tony Yayo's imprisonment, the group recruited Tennessee-based rapper Young Buck, who was featured throughout the Beg for Mercy album. In late 2004, California-based rapper The Game was also added to the group, a proposition made by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, to promote the Aftermath/Interscope newcomer. However, due to The Game's "disloyalty" in the eyes of 50 Cent, he was soon removed from the group. In April 2008, 50 Cent revealed Young Buck was no longer a part of the group due to his "excessive spending" and "inconsistent behavior". In early 2014, after Yayo and 50 Cent separately stated G Unit was no more, the original members of the group reconciled and reunited at Summer Jam 2014, along with Young Buck after his six-year departure from the group. G Unit Records rapper Kidd Kidd, was also added to the group upon its reformation.
