Clear Light

Clear Light was an American psychedelic rock band that was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1966. The group released one studio album that was met with moderate national success before disbanding.

History

In 1966, The Brain Train formed and was managed by Sunset Strip hipster Bud Mathis. They recorded one single – "Black Roses", written by Wolfe Dios – before changing their name to Clear Light and signing to Elektra Records. Guitarist Bob Seal felt the name should be changed to coincide with the single. Clear Light shared its name with a potent form of LSD, although Seal states the name came from his studies of Eastern philosophy. The Doors' producer Paul A. Rothchild took over management of the band.

The core members of Clear Light were Bob Seal, lead guitarist and vocals, Robbie "The Werewolf" Robison, rhythm guitar and vocals, Doug Lubahn bass and vocals, Dallas Taylor drums, and Michael Ney on an atypical second set of drums. The original line-up was featured in the 1967 motion picture The President's Analyst, with Barry McGuire cast as their leader and vocalist. They soon added Cliff De Young on lead vocals and this is the version of the band seen on their only album cover. However, sometime during the recording process, often described as "brutal", Paul Rothchild was not happy with Robison's guitar playing skills and pressured the group to remove him - he was replaced by keyboard player Ralph Schuckett.

Clear Light (album)

Clear Light was the only studio album released by the 1960s Los Angeles psychedelic rock band, Clear Light.

Recording commenced in April 1967 at Elektra Recording Studio in Los Angeles. The majority of the material was complete during these sessions, but the developments were postponed to replace Robbie Robison on guitar. Instead of a new guitarist, the band recruited keyboardist Ralph Schuckett, and, following a month of concerts, the band returned to recording in Sunset Sound Recorders Studios. The studios had just recently upgraded from a 4-track to an 8-track. A highlight of the recording sessions was the band's psychedelic interpretation of the composition "Mr. Blue".

Clear Light was released in September 1967 and peaked at number 126 on the Billboard pop albums chart. It combined elements of folk, rock, psychedelic, and classical music. It is an AMG music pick, although the album was not a success at the time. The album featured the unique characteristic of including two leading drummers on their tracks.

Peter Wadams, better known by his stage name P-Money, is a New Zealand hip-hop DJ and producer. His notable work includes the hit song "Everything" featuring New Zealand R&B singer Vince Harder, which reached number one on the New Zealand Singles Chart for three weeks in 2008, however he is best known for his recordings with Scribe including the 2003 smash hit "Not Many".

Career

P-Money's initial entry into the music industry was via DJ competitions and student radio. In 2004 he released his second studio album Magic City which charted at #2 on the RIANZ New Zealand Singles Chart. His first single of the album, "Stop the Music", featuring New Zealand rapper Scribe, scored P-Money his first solo #1 single and also charted within the top 10 of the Australian ARIAnet singles chart in April 2005. The album included collaborations with local and international artists such as Akon, Skillz, Jatis, Aasim, Capone, Sauce Money, Bobby Creekwater, Grandmaster Roc Raida and Scribe. The second single off the album "Keep on Calling", featured rising American hip-hop star Akon and charted at #23 in New Zealand.

P Money

Paris Moore-Williams (born 8 April 1989), better known by his stage name P Money, is an English Grime MC from Lewisham, South London who is also active in the dubstep scene. He is best known his live performances as well as for songs such as Slang Like This, Anthemic and Round the Clock. He was a founding member of Lewisham based grime crew OGz and has released one album with the group entitled OGz Season Vol. 1. He also appeared on the sixth edition of highly popular grime DVD Lord of The Mics (LOTM 6) in a grime clash (battle). He is known for is skippy flow and lyricism.

Biography

P Money began his career within the crew Fatal Assassins along with MC's such as Little Dee and Blacks. During these times P Money was known for his fast, skippy flow which created plenty of hype when attending pirate radio shows. He attended many classic studio sets such as those from the Hazardous Sessions series and also Fuck Radio volume 5. He gained a lot of positive attention with the massive single "What Did He Say", which has since been released on Vinyl and digital download, as well as the title being used as a slogan for a line of T-shirts. He is currently a member of the crew OGs and was involved with the collective's first release, OG Season.
