Civil war

A civil war is a war between organized groups within the same state or country, or, less commonly, between two countries created from a formerly united state. The aim of one side may be to take control of the country or a region, to achieve independence for a region or to change government policies. The term is a calque of the Latin bellum civile which was used to refer to the various civil wars of the Roman Republic in the 1st century BC.

A civil war is a high-intensity conflict, often involving regular armed forces, that is sustained, organized and large-scale. Civil wars may result in large numbers of casualties and the consumption of significant resources. Most modern civil wars involve intervention by outside powers. According to Patrick M. Regan in his book Civil Wars and Foreign Powers (2000) about two thirds of the 138 intrastate conflicts between the end of World War II and 2000 saw international intervention, with the United States intervening in 35 of these conflicts.

Civil Wars (TV series)

Civil Wars is an American legal drama that aired on ABC from November 20, 1991 to March 2, 1993. The series was produced by Steven Bochco. After a brief syndicated run on the FX Network in the mid 90s, the series has not aired since.

Synopsis

The series focused on the lives and cases of New York City divorce attorneys. It had a famously misanthropic opening credits sequence; in it, romantic photo albums were shown as the voice track played couples ripping into each other in court, as each of the show's principal attorneys interrogated them, one by one, on the stand.

Cast

Two of the characters lived on longer than the show itself. After Civil Wars was cancelled, Eli Levinson (Rosenberg) and Denise Iannello (Mazar) were transplanted to the Final Season 8 of L.A. Law, even though L.A. Law aired on NBC and Civil Wars aired on ABC.

Civil Wars (The Legend of Korra)

"Civil Wars" is the collective name for the third and fourth episodes of the second season of the American animated television series The Legend of Korra. Part 1 first aired on September 20, 2013 and Part 2 aired on September 27, 2013 on Nickelodeon in the United States. The episodes were written by series co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino. "Civil Wars, Part 1" was directed by Colin Heck and "Civil Wars, Part 2" was directed by Ian Graham. The two-part episode received generally positive reviews from critics, praising the storyline and the subplot involving Tenzin, Kya and Bumi but criticizing the subplot involving Bolin and Eska's troubled relationship.

Synopsis

Tensions and disagreements are suddenly stirring between the Southern and Northern Water Tribes; particularly since Northern soldiers have invaded the Southern tribe's home villages and palace. Avatar Korra attempts to restore harmony and understanding between the two, to no avail. Will the mighty Avatar be able to maintain order between her homeland and its sister tribe, or will everything erupt into chaos?
