City Square Mall

City Square Shopping Centre is a mall across the street from City Hall in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is located in the heart of the heritage district of central Vancouver, on the northwest corner of 12th Avenue and Cambie Street.

City Square Shopping Mall and office complex was inaugurated in 1989 and is an example of adaptive reuse of heritage buildings.

History

Unique to Vancouver, City Square's shopping mall and office complex is a mix of modern and heritage architecture. The heritage portions of the complex were built in 1905 and 1908 to house the Model School and Normal School, respectively. Graduates from the Teacher’s Training Program applied their skills, norms (hence the name “Normal School”) and educational theories at the Normal School to gain practical experience. In 1986 the City of Vancouver designated both school buildings as municipal heritage sites, saving them from demolition.

On the retail level, the shopping mall offers over 50 shops and professional services, including medical and dental offices, and a food court.

City Square Mall is Singapore’s first eco-mall to be integrated with a 49,000 sq ft (4,600 m²) urban park named City Green. The mall sits on the site of Singapore's historic New World Amusement Park and is directly connected to Farrer Park MRT Station. City Green is designed to provide a learning experience about ecology and the natural environment.

City Square Mall is also the first mall in Singapore awarded the prestigious Green Mark Platinum Award by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).

Brookfield Place (Perth)

Brookfield Place is a skyscraper within the Brookfield Place office complex in Perth, Western Australia. Located at 125 St Georges Terrace, the major tenant was BHP Billiton. Construction commenced in April 2008 and was completed in 2012. The project is estimated to have cost around A$500 million.

Developers Brookfield lodged a development application for the second stage of Brookfield Place in July 2011, for a 30,000m² 16-storey office tower to be situated to the south of the main tower fronting Mounts Bay Road. In June 2013 the second tower was approved - with tenancy commitments from law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth and Deloitte. Completion date of the second tower is estimated for 2015.
