Chris Crawford (game designer)

Christopher Crawford (born 1950) is a computer game designer and writer. He designed and programmed several important computer games in the 1980s, including Eastern Front (1941) and Balance of Power. Among developers he became known for his passionate advocacy of game design as an art form, founding both The Journal of Computer Game Design and the Computer Game Developers' Conference. In 1992 Crawford withdrew from commercial game development and began experimenting with ideas for a next generation interactive storytelling system.

Biography

After receiving a B.S. in physics from UC Davis in 1972 and an M.S. in physics from University of Missouri in 1975, Crawford taught at a community college and the University of California.

Crawford first encountered computer games at Missouri, when he met someone attempting to computerize Avalon Hill's Blitzkrieg. While teaching he wrote an early version of Tanktics in FORTRAN for the IBM 1130 in 1976 as a hobby, then wrote Tanktics and an early version of Legionnaire for personal computers such as the KIM-1 and Commodore PET. In 1978 Crawford began selling the games and by 1979 "made the startling discovery", he later said, "that it is far more lucrative and enjoyable to teach for fun and program for money". He joined Atari that year, founding the Games Research Group under Alan Kay in 1982.

Christopher Lee Crawford (born May 13, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round (50th pick overall) of the 1997 NBA Draft. A 6'9" forward from Marquette University, Crawford played in 7 NBA seasons, all with the Hawks. After his stint with Atlanta, in which he missed the entire 2004-05 season because of a torn ligament in his right knee, Crawford had a tryout with the New Jersey Nets, but did not ever play for them.

In his NBA career, Crawford played in 252 games and scored a total of 1,654 points.

Chris Crawford (born September 30, 1992) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for Rouen Métropole Basket of the French LNB Pro A. He played college basketball for Memphis University.

College career

After being touted as a four-star recruit coming out of high school, Crawford went to the Memphis Tigers. After two irregular initial seasons, he had a breakout season as a senior, posting career highs in points, rebounds, three-point field goals made (71) and three-point percentage (39.9), being named by C-USA as sixth man of the year.

Professional career

After going undrafted in the 2014 NBA draft, Crawford joined the Houston Rockets for the 2014 NBA Summer League. On September 12, 2014, Crawford signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, however he was waived on October 19. On November 2, 2014, he was signed as an affiliate player by the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League to be in their training camp eventually making his way to the opening day roster.
