Choose Me

Choose Me is a 1984 American comedy-drama film directed and written by Alan Rudolph, starring Keith Carradine, Lesley Ann Warren, and Geneviève Bujold. The film is a look at sex and love in 1980's Los Angeles. The film's tagline is In the middle of the night, when there's no one else...

Plot

After Mickey is released from a mental hospital, where his stories are perceived as lies, he goes back to Los Angeles in search of a woman named Eve. When he arrives at the bar that bears her name, he is immediately attracted to the new owner, a former call girl also named Eve. She tells Mickey she bought the bar after the old owner killed herself, "over some guy". Although Eve is also attracted to Mickey, she refuses to commit to any one man, confessing to radio talk show host Dr. Nancy Love that she ruined too many marriages to have one of her own. That night Eve rebuffs Mickey's advances and sleeps with the bartender who has a crush on her, while avoiding the married man she's been having an affair with.

Choose Me (book)

Choose Me is a collection of short stories by Canadian writer Evelyn Lau. It was first published by Doubleday Canada in 1999.

Stories

"Family" is about a woman who is sleeping with a married man. She stays as a visitor in his house while he and his wife are away, and goes through their things. While the primary theme of the story is sex, Choose Me has surprised readers with its "unflattering, often harsh, depictions of old men's bodies from the perspective of their young female lovers." The other themes of the story are lust, loneliness, age, and the Electra complex.

Choose Me (Rescue Me)

When you start to shake your thing
It makes me want to sing
    The feelings in my bones
From the bottom of my heart
    It's a feeling that I keep
    It makes me breathe
If you ever have a choice
    Baby, Choose Me!
I'll wait for the day (I'll wait for the day)
But it might be too late (but it might be too late)
If the world comes crashing down
I'll be the loudest voice in the crowd
    And if that day comes
    Choose Me!

But it might be too late (but it might be too late)
If the world comes crashing down
I'll be the loudest voice in the crowd
    And if that day comes
    Choose Me!
How many times have you seen
The woman of a man you're supposed to be with
    And they're with somebody else?
    And that somebody else
That other man, or that other woman
Ain't half the person you are
And it's written all over their face
I know you just want to say
"Darlin', tell me I need you!"
