Chery A15

The Chery A15 (simplified Chinese: 旗云; pinyin: Qiyun), also known as Cowin, Flagcloud or Amulet, is a subcompact car produced by the Chinese manufacturer Chery from 2003 to 2010. A facelifted version was available from 2011 to 2014.

Overview

It is based on a restyling of the Chery A11 (also known as the Fengyun, or Windcloud), itself based on the first generation of the SEAT Toledo, which was built on the Volkswagen Group A2 platform. This is the same platform as is used in the second generation Volkswagen Golf. The vehicle also has a fuel-efficient, low-emission engine. It has been marketed in European countries such as Ukraine and Russia and in South America.

It was launched in August 2003, as a successor to the Fengyun (Windcloud), and has been exported to more than 30 countries in Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. In 2010, locally assembled, the car went on sale in Russian market as Vortex Corda.

Safety

It has several safety features, including anti-lock brakes and electronic brakeforce distribution. However, the Russian car magazine Autoreview reported that an A15 it had crashed in accordance with the EuroNCAP test standard performed even worse than the 1-starred Brilliance BS6 sedan and that the dummy used had to be dismantled into pieces in order to be removed. Consequently, Autoreview has called for the car to be withdrawn from the market.

Autostrada A15 (Italy)

The A15 is an Italian autostrada (motorway) connecting Parma and La Spezia through the valleys of the Taro and Lunigiana Rivers. The road is also known as Autocamionale della Cisa because it crosses the Northern Apennines at the Cisa pass. The main 101-km expanse of the motorway connects the A1 with the A12 (Genoa-Rosignano Marittimo), thus directly linking the Po Valley with the Italian Riviera and the Versilia region.

The toll road is operated by the company Autocamionale della Cisa S.p.A. The franchisee's current toll charges are: car or motorcycle, €10.40; Overheight vehicle (>1.3m), €10.70; 3 Axles, €14.40; 4 Axles, €22.70; 5 or more Axles, €26.30.

At the 9-km mark, drivers are welcomed by a curious monument, a tuft of steel and cement sculpted by Luigi Magnani and placed in the traffic island between the two carriageways. The monument is visible to motorists coming from the A1.

History

The first phase of this motorway, dating to the 1950s, was designed to provide an alternative route between the Po Valley and the coastal Tyrrhenian Sea. The construction required several viaducts and tunnels to attain the maximum altitude of 745 metres above sea level at the entrance of the tunnel crossing. Built as a dual carriageway (divided highway), it is very curvilinear and challenging to drive and, therefore, has long been used for testing new heavy duty vehicles.

Chery Automobile Co., Ltd.,trading as Chery (/ˈʃɛri/) and sometimes known by the pinyin transcription of its Chinese name, Qirui, is a Chinese automobile manufacturer headquartered in Wuhu, Anhui Province, China. It was founded by the Government of China in 1997 and is a state-owned corporation. Chery's principal products are passenger cars, minivans, and SUVs; it sells passenger cars under the Chery marque and commercial vehicles under the Karry brand.
