Cheerio (company)

Cheerio Corporation (株式会社チェリオコーポレーション, Kabushiki Kaisha Cherio Kōporēshon) is a soft drink manufacturing company headquartered in Takatsuki Osaka Prefecture, Japan.

Headquarters

The main office is located in Takatsuki, a subyurb of Osaka.

The current (2006) president (selected by the board of directors) is Hikari Suga.

Brief history

In August 1961, the 7-Up company headquarters for Japan was established in Takatsuki, with the production facilities opening there in April 1963. The company changed its name to Kansai Cheerio (株式会社チェリオ関西, Kabushiki Kaisha Cherio Kansai) in April 1987, then consolidated with Tokyo Cheerio (株式会社チェリオ東京, Kabushiki Kaisha Cherio Tōkyō) and changed to its current name in February 1991. In May 2001, the Cheerio obtained a license to manufacture alcoholic beverages. In June that same year, Cheerio obtained certification for the growing and manufacturing of products labelled "organic".

Cheerio (drink)

Cheerio (チェリオ, Cherio) is a Japanese carbonated soft drink manufactured by the Cheerio Corporation. The drink comes in multiple flavors, and was introduced in 1963. The drinks used to be sold in glass bottles, similar to those used for Ramune. In recent years, with the proliferation of steel and aluminum cans and PET bottles, Cheerio (grape and orange only) in glass bottles is only available in the Chūbu region south of Tokyo, as well as three vending units in Kanagawa Prefecture. In order to accommodate the places which sell sake and other drinks, Coca-Cola and other soft drink makers have worked to expand the varieties of their products. One way of selling more of their goods is by lining them up next to milk and other products, which helps increase sales at places such as sentō, onsen and convenience stores.
