Cyndi Almouzni

Cyndi Almouzni (born 10 October 1984), best known at the beginning of her music career in the United States as Cherie is a French pop and dance music singer coming from Marseille Her 2004 hit "I'm Ready" hit #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

Later on she performed professionally with her real name Cyndi Almouzni and under her mononym Cyndi most notably when she took part in the competition for UK entry to Eurovision Song Contest with "I'll Leave My Heart" coming second to the eventual entry "Flying the Flag (For You)" from Scooch.

Career

When she was 14, Cyndi won a local talent contest and entered the national televised contest finals held in Paris. This was the start of her professional singing career. She has performed in many countries, including France, the UK and the US. She signed a worldwide recording contract in the US while continuing her studies.

As Cherie

Steve Allen, A&R at Sony BMG first discovered Cyndi after hearing her powerful vocals on a dance track recorded when she was just 14 years old. Allen was behind two previous Eurovision entries, Gina G with "Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit" and the 1997 UK winning Eurovision entry in Dublin with "Love Shine a Light" by Katrina and the Waves.

Cherie is the 2004 debut album by the French pop and dance music artist Cherie. The single "Betcha Never" was featured in the 2003 film Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman.

Bayon

The Bayon (Khmer: ប្រាសាទបាយ័ន, Prasat Bayon) is a well-known and richly decorated Khmer temple at Angkor in Cambodia. Built in the late 12th or early 13th century as the official state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon stands at the centre of Jayavarman's capital, Angkor Thom. Following Jayavarman's death, it was modified and augmented by later Hindu and Theravada Buddhist kings in accordance with their own religious preferences.

The Bayon's most distinctive feature is the multitude of serene and smiling stone faces on the many towers which jut out from the upper terrace and cluster around its central peak. The temple is known also for two impressive sets of bas-reliefs, which present an unusual combination of mythological, historical, and mundane scenes. The current main conservatory body, the Japanese Government Team for the Safeguarding of Angkor (the JSA) has described the temple as "the most striking expression of the baroque style" of Khmer architecture, as contrasted with the classical style of Angkor Wat.

Bayon (band)

Bayon is a German band founded around 1971 in the former GDR. Its musical style can be described as a mixture of Folk, Jazz, Rock and Classical music. Internationally they came to prominence with their musical contribution Stell dich mitten in den Regen to the movie The Lives of Others. The name of the band derives from the Khmer temple Bayon in Cambodia.

History

Bayon arose around 1971 from the formation Garage Players, a former Blues rock band. From the founder members only Christoph Theusner (GDR/Germany) is still present. Together with Sonny Thet they form the 'hard core' members of the band. In 1977 Bayon released their first LP record, which was self-titled. Beside their normal concert activities Bayon operated compositional for East German theaters in Berlin, Weimar and Gera as well as the East German media. So they made radio plays, film and stage scene music for well known artists like Heiner Müller. The following albums Suite and El Sonido got a lot of attention in the GDR media. In 2006 Bayon re-released their song Stell dich mitten in den Regen, which was first published on the Sampler Hallo No 1 by East German record label Amiga in 1972. In 2010, Bayon was awarded with the German World Music award RUTH for their lifework.

Bayeux (river)

The Bayeux (Baion in Occitan) is a short stream in the southeast of France. In the upper 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) of its course it is called Bayon. It runs from the Montagne Sainte-Victoire to the Arc, near Meyreuil.
