Switch (house DJ)

David James Andrew Taylor, better known his stage name Switch, is a British DJ, songwriter, sound engineer, and record producer. He is best known for his work with M.I.A.. In the fidget house genre, Switch runs his own music label "Dubsided", as well as the label Counterfeet, established in 2006 with fellow producer Sinden. He has released various singles under his own name, and is also well known for remixing and producing for many major artists. He is a former member of the American electronic dancehall group Major Lazer.

Most notably Switch has worked extensively with fellow British artist M.I.A. co-producing tracks on her albums Arular and Kala. For the latter, he travelled to work with M.I.A. in A. R. Rahman's Panchathan Record Inn and AM Studios and other locations such as Kodambakkam, Chennai and Trinidad and Tobago. He says "When you go somewhere like India, and especially Jamaica, it puts you in a different train of thought, outside of your usual working conditions. They use music as their voice; they use it for politics, for religion. So, I think for people that are struggling, they can use it to vent frustrations, or to celebrate.”

Switch 3 is an Australian band that began in the Australian Capital Territory in late 2002.

History

Switch 3 formed when Maf and Mick's previous band, LapSpeed, folded. Although LapSpeed was primarily a punk band, both Maf and Mick wanted to try something different with a new lineup and new sound. The search for a guitarist was short lived, with Maf making a call to his bass playing brother Ben, who would eventually join the band as a guitarist, passing bass duties to Mick. Next was the drummer. After a couple of abortive starts the three decided to put up some flyers looking for "a drummer who must be quick and use a double kick". Nick Lucey fit that bill perfectly and the early days of Switch 3 started.

Each member brought a different musical taste to the band. Maf grew up listening to such bands as Led Zeppelin, the Cure, and the Misfits. Mick was heavily influenced by Soundgarden, and Queen. Ben brought the old school metal edge with his preference for Iron Maiden, while Nick sat firmly in the pop punk camp.

History and profile

Gente was launched in Milan in 1957. Its founder and publisher was Edilio Rusconi, an Italian journalist, writer, publisher and film producer. The magazine was the flagship of Rusconi Group. The magazine was part of Rusconi Group until 1999 when the Group was acquired by Hachette Filipacchi Médias, a subsidiary of Lagardère SCA.

The magazine was published by Hachette Rusconi under the Hachette Filipacchi Médias ownership. It was owned by Hachette Filipacchi Médias until 2011 when it was acquired by Hearst Magazines. It is published on a weekly basis.

Circulation

Gente had a circulation of 667,553 copies in 1984. It rose to 769,185 copies between September 1993 and August 1994. In 2000 the magazine had a circulation of 690,000 copies. The 2004 circulation of the magazine was 573,000 copies. It was 411,425 copies in 2007. Its circulation was 332,340 copies in 2010.

Che! (1969 film)

Che! is a 1969 American biographical drama film directed by Richard Fleischer and starring Omar Sharif as Marxist revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara. It follows Guevara from when he first landed in Cuba in 1956 to his death in Bolivia in 1967, although the film does not portray the formative pre-Cuban revolution sections of Che's life as described in the autobiographical book The Motorcycle Diaries (1993).

Plot synopsis

The film tells of Che Guevara (Omar Sharif), a young Argentine doctor who proves his mettle during the Cuban guerilla war in the late 1950s. He gains the respect of his men and becomes the leader of a patrol.

Fidel Castro (Jack Palance) is impressed by Guevara's tactics and discipline and makes him his chief advisor. When Castro defeats Cuban dictator Batista after two years of fighting, Guevara directs a series of massive reprisals, yet, Guevara dreams of fomenting a worldwide revolution. After Castro backs down during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Guevara accuses Castro of being a Soviet tool and decides to leave Cuba.
