Charlie Fink (born 16 May 1986) is a British singer-songwriter, producer and filmmaker best known for fronting the indie folk band Noah and the Whale.
Noah and the Whale was formed by Fink, along with violinist and former classmate Tom Hobden, bassist Matt "Urby Whale" Owens and his brother Doug, 2006. As primary song writer for the band, Fink has the sole writing credit on the first three Noah and the Whale albums which have collectively sold over a million copies worldwide, including two gold records and one platinum record. He has been described as "one of Britain’s most daring and inventive songwriters" by the Sunday Times.
He toured with the band from 2006 until their split in 2015. The band have played at a number of notable venues, including a sold out show at The Royal Albert Hall and festivals such as Coachella, Lollapoloza and Glastonbury as well as headlining Wilderness Festival in 2013. They also toured with Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend and Phoenix. Fink has appeared with the band on Late Show with David Letterman as well as Later... with Jools Holland, The Graham Norton Show and The Andrew Marr Show. He has directed a number of his band's music videos and a short film that accompanied their second album 'The First Days Of Spring' and another film that accompanied their fourth album 'Heart Of Nowhere'.
Charlie Fink is a theatrical producer, entrepreneur, and arts advocate. He is an executive and producer of entertainment and new media. He has created and launched new brands for Disney, AOL, and American Greetings since 1985. He received the 2014 Rule Breaker Award from No Rule Theater Company.
Fink started his career in the Animation Division of Walt Disney Pictures, where he rose to the position of Vice-President. In his six years with Disney, Mr. Fink developed and produced live-action and animated motion pictures, including Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King, which was based on his idea, "Bambi in Africa". In 1992, Fink left Disney Pictures to become Executive Vice-President, Chief Operating Officer and Director of Virtual World Entertainment, a software developer and location based Entertainment Company owned by Tim Disney. That company was later sold to Microsoft.
In early 1996, Fink joined AOL as Senior Vice-President and Chief Cr. Officer of its Greenhouse Networks, where he created and launched some of the formative Internet's largest content brands, including Love@AOL (sold to Match.com), Electra (sold to Oxygen Media), Entertainment Asylum, and Santa's Home Page (which he also co-produced with the late Brandon Tartikoff and Will Vinton as an ABC TV special).
