City Park Radio

City Park Radio is a community radio station in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia, broadcasting on the frequency 103.7 FM and is a member of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.

The station started broadcasting on 7 April 1986, from facilities in Newnham as 7LTN-fm. In 1988, the station moved to the 100-year-old City Park Cottage in Launceston's City Park and started using the name City Park Radio. In 1993, work was started on a new studio complex behind the cottage.

The music played on City Park Radio includes country, dance, hip hop, classical, jazz, alternative, rock, folk, musicals, blues and ethnic. The station also has non-music programming including news, discussion of issues such as the environment, women's issues, book reviews, job and training issues. The programming is also multicultural, with programs in over ten languages.

Inside the City Park Cottage is a radio museum, with over fifty radios dating from the early 1930s.

In September 1996, presenter Tim Moon broke the world record for "The Longest Single Continuous Broadcast By One Announcer". He was on air for 122 hours, 20 minutes and 3 seconds, breaking the previous record by just over 1 hour.

Luton Airport

London Luton Airport (IATA: LTN, ICAO: EGGW), previously called Luton International Airport, is an international airport located 1.5 nautical miles (2.8 km; 1.7 mi) east of the town centre in the Borough of Luton in Bedfordshire, England and is 30.5 NM (56.5 km; 35.1 mi) north of Central London. The airport is 2 mi (3.2 km) from Junction 10a of the M1 motorway. It is the fourth-largest airport serving the London area after Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, and is one of London's six international airports along with London City and Southend.

In 2014, just under 10.5 million passengers passed through the airport, a record total for Luton making it the sixth busiest airport in the UK. The airport serves as a base for EasyJet, Monarch, Thomson Airways and Ryanair. The vast majority of the routes served are within Europe, although there are some charter and scheduled routes to destinations in Northern Africa, The United States and Asia.

History

Early history

An airport was opened on the site on 16 July 1938 by the Secretary of State for Air, Kingsley Wood. During World War II, it was a base for Royal Air Force fighters. Situated where the valley of the River Lea cuts its way through the north-east end of the Chiltern Hills, the airport occupies a hill-top location, with a roughly 40 m (130 ft) drop-off at the western end of the runway

Champion

A champion (from the late Latin campio) is the victor in a challenge, contest or competition. There can be a territorial pyramid of championships, e.g. local, regional / provincial, state, national, continental and world championships, and even further (artificial) divisions at one or more of these levels, as in soccer. Their champions can be accordingly styled, e.g. national champion, world champion.

Meaning

In certain disciplines, there are specific titles for champions, either descriptive, as the baspehlivan in Turkish oil wrestling, yokozuna in Japanese sumo wrestling; or copied from real life, such as the koning and keizer ('king' and 'emperor') in traditional archery competitions (not just national, also at lower levels) in the Low Countries.

In a broader sense, nearly any sort of competition can be considered a championship, and the winner of it a champion. Thus, there are championships for many non-sporting competitions such as spelling bees or wargames. In this context, it is used as a noun.

Champions (comics)

The Champions are a team of superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The team first appears in The Champions #1 (October 1975) and was created by writer Tony Isabella and artist Don Heck.

Publication history

Writer Tony Isabella developed the concept of a new team of superheroes and originally wanted the roster to consist of former X-Men Angel and Iceman, and the newly created Black Goliath. Black Goliath became unavailable when the character debuted in his own title, forcing Isabella to rethink the concept. Editor Len Wein insisted on at least five members, and Isabella added three established heroes: Russian spy Black Widow (team leader), the Greek god Hercules, and the supernatural avenger Ghost Rider.Captain Marvel, Power Man, and the Son of Satan were all considered for the final place on the roster before selecting Ghost Rider. Writer and publisher David Anthony Kraft is credited with naming the team, with the title originally intended to be published in Giant-Size format as Giant-Size Champions. Production difficulties, which caused a three-month delay between the first and second issues, prevented this. The title was eventually published as The Champions, and ran for seventeen issues from October 1975 to January 1978. In addition to Don Heck, artists who drew the series include George Tuska, Bob Hall, and John Byrne.

Champions (Tamil TV shows)

Champions (Tamil: சாம்பியன்ஸ்) is an Tamil Talent show on Sun TV. The show premiered on 10 November 2013. It airs every Sunday 12:00pm. Champions is Talent show that provides a platform for physically challenged artists and performers to Show Their Talent. The show is hosted by Thejeswari. Pattimandram Raja and Revathi are the judges. The success of the show is evidenced by its remakes in 2 other regional languages. The show last aired on 14 February 2014 and ended with 14 episodes.
