Villain (1971 film)

Villain is a 1971 gangster film directed by Michael Tuchner and starring Richard Burton, Ian McShane, T. P. McKenna and Donald Sinden.

Plot

Ruthless East End gangster Vic Dakin has plans for an ambitious raid on the wages van of a plastics factory. This is a departure from Dakin's usual modus operandi and the job is further complicated by his having to work with fellow gangster Frank Fletcher's firm.

In a growing trend for movies of the same era and genre (Get Carter, A Clockwork Orange, The French Connection for example) some of the violence is quite graphic especially during the heist and foreshadows several 1970s cop TV shows such as The Sweeney, Target and Special Branch.

Villain (2012 film)

Villain (Kannada: ವಿಲನ್) is a 2012 Indian Kannada action film written and directed by M. S. Ramesh and produced by Yogish Hunsur under the banner Saraswathi Entertainers. The film stars Auditya and Ragini Dwivedi in lead roles.

Villain, which was shot mostly in Mysore and surrounding areas, was given U/A certificate by the regional censor board. The film was originally titled Rebel.

Critical reception

Villain received negative reviews from film critics upon its release. IBN Live gave the film a rating of 1.5/5 and commented that the script and narration were poor.Nowrunning too blamed the film's weak script and dragging narration and gave one and a half out of five star rating.

Villain (roller coaster)

Villain was a wooden roller coaster at the Geauga Lake amusement park in Aurora, Ohio. It was designed by the now-defunct Custom Coasters International (CCI). The ride opened as a part of the four-coaster expansion Six Flags brought to Geauga Lake between 1999 and 2000. It was a wooden hybrid, which means it had steel supports but had wood track. When it originally opened, the ride was moderately smooth, but by 2001 it deteriorated and was re-tracked during the off-season. This was the second CCI coaster to feature a "trick track" element (the first was Shivering Timbers at Michigan's Adventure) which the track banks from one side to another while staying otherwise on a straight path.

Rocky Mountain Construction, an Idaho-based manufacturing firm, handled the construction of the ride. The ride had been retracked by Martin & Vleminckx.

Currently, the Villain's trains are at Kings Island, another Cedar Fair park in Mason, OH. It is unknown what they will be used for.

Chains (nautical)

The chains were small platforms, built on either side of the hull of a ship, used to provide a wide purchase for the shrouds, and to assist in the practice of depth sounding.

The chains provided a platform for a 'leadsman', the sailor assigned to swing the sounding line, or 'lead' into the water. The term originated from the practice of the sailor standing between the shrouds when casting the line, which were attached to the hull by chainplates, or, in earlier sailing ships, to lengths of chain along the ship's side. A length of chain was usually fixed at waist height to the stanchions above the chains, as an added safety measure. The chains were common on large sailing vessels, but the role of leadsman and swinging the lead to obtain depth soundings declined with developments in echo sounding, and ships are rarely now equipped with chains.

Chains (1949 film)

Catene (internationally released as Chains) is a 1949 Italian film in the Melodrama genre directed by Raffaello Matarazzo . It had an impressive commercial success, being seen by 6 million people, one in eight Italians of the time, and was followed by a series of other six successful films still directed by Matarazzo and featuring the couple Amedeo Nazzari and Yvonne Sanson. The film was remade in 1974.

The film's sets were designed by the art director Ottavio Scotti.

Plot and outline

A husband kills his wife's ex-boyfriend, who was blackmailing her. He flees to America, but is sent back to Italy to stand trial. The only way he can be set free is if his wife confesses to adultery – so the murder can be considered a crime of passion – but this estranges her from her family. Starring Amedeo Nazzari and actress of Greek origin Yvonne Sanson. Maligned by critics because it did not conform to precepts of neorealism, this did not prevent its unexpected box office success.

Chains (DLT song)

'Chains' is a Hip hop song by New Zealand DJ DLT (musician) featuring singer Che Fu. The song reached no 1 on the New Zealand charts. It was Che-Fu's first song after leaving Supergroove and marked the beginning of his solo career.

Background

Che-Fu had been asked to feature on the song before his departure from Supergroove. He came to the recording unaware that he needed to write a chorus as well as a verse, and came up with the memorable hook "Come break my chains/Come help me out/Living in the city ain't so bad" on the spot.

Chart performance

The song debuted on the New Zealand charts at number 2, then rose to number 1 where it remained for 5 weeks.

Awards

At the 1997 New Zealand Music Awards 'Chains' won Best Single, and Che-Fu was awarded Best Male Vocalist for the song. In 2001 it was named by APRA members as the 21st best NZ song of all time, and featured on the Nature's Best album.
