Felix (newspaper)

Felix is the student newspaper of Imperial College London. It won the Guardian Student Newspaper of the Year award in 2006 and 2008. The newspaper is published weekly during term time with approximately 30 issues per year, and is distributed around the various Imperial College campuses.

The FELIX motto, "Keep The Cat Free" (first adopted in 1974), refers to the policy of distributing the newspaper free of charge but more importantly to the tradition of free speech: unlike many students' newspapers Felix is free to criticise union policy whenever the editor sees fit, although during Spring Term 2008 Imperial College Union constitution controversially prevented some news articles from being published.

In addition to news, Felix also carries comic strips, features, opinions, puzzles and reviews, plus reports of trips and Imperial College sporting events. As a student newspaper, it is read by a large proportion of the student body, as well as other members of the Imperial College community. Consequently, it provides an opportunity for advertising to both students and staff.

Felix (name)

Felix is a male given name and surname that stems from Latin (fēlix, felicis) and means "lucky", "favored by luck" or "the lucky one". Its female form is Felicity (English), Felicitas or Felizitas (in German-speaking regions).

In German, Dutch, Czech, Slovenian, Romanian and Scandinavian languages the form "Felix" is the same as English. In French, Hungarian, Portuguese and Spanish it is written with an acute, "Félix", whereas in Catalan it is written with a grave, "Fèlix". The Italian form of the name is "Felice", in Polish and Croatian "Feliks".

The following is a list of characters from Camelot Software Planning's Golden Sun series of role-playing video games, consisting of 2001's Golden Sun for Game Boy Advance and its 2003 Game Boy Advance follow-up, Golden Sun: The Lost Age, which deals with the efforts of opposing groups of magic-wielding warriors concerning the restoration of the omnipotent force of Alchemy to the fictional world of Weyard. Classified as Adepts of Weyard's four base elements of Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water, these characters possess the ability to employ a chi-like form of magic named Psynergy. Adepts among the common populace are few and far between the settlements of the game's world. The game's characters were created and illustrated by Camelot's Shin Yamanouchi.

Chains (1949 film)

Catene (internationally released as Chains) is a 1949 Italian film in the Melodrama genre directed by Raffaello Matarazzo . It had an impressive commercial success, being seen by 6 million people, one in eight Italians of the time, and was followed by a series of other six successful films still directed by Matarazzo and featuring the couple Amedeo Nazzari and Yvonne Sanson. The film was remade in 1974.

The film's sets were designed by the art director Ottavio Scotti.

Plot and outline

A husband kills his wife's ex-boyfriend, who was blackmailing her. He flees to America, but is sent back to Italy to stand trial. The only way he can be set free is if his wife confesses to adultery – so the murder can be considered a crime of passion – but this estranges her from her family. Starring Amedeo Nazzari and actress of Greek origin Yvonne Sanson. Maligned by critics because it did not conform to precepts of neorealism, this did not prevent its unexpected box office success.

Chains (DLT song)

'Chains' is a Hip hop song by New Zealand DJ DLT (musician) featuring singer Che Fu. The song reached no 1 on the New Zealand charts. It was Che-Fu's first song after leaving Supergroove and marked the beginning of his solo career.

Background

Che-Fu had been asked to feature on the song before his departure from Supergroove. He came to the recording unaware that he needed to write a chorus as well as a verse, and came up with the memorable hook "Come break my chains/Come help me out/Living in the city ain't so bad" on the spot.

Chart performance

The song debuted on the New Zealand charts at number 2, then rose to number 1 where it remained for 5 weeks.

Awards

At the 1997 New Zealand Music Awards 'Chains' won Best Single, and Che-Fu was awarded Best Male Vocalist for the song. In 2001 it was named by APRA members as the 21st best NZ song of all time, and featured on the Nature's Best album.

Chains (geological site)

The Chains is the name given to the north-west plateau of Exmoor, Somerset, England. This plateau lies above the 1,500 feet (457 m) contour line, and includes the source of the River Barle.

It lies roughly within a triangle of land between Simonsbath, Challacombe and Lynton and has few distinguishing features. The highest point is at Chains Barrow - 1,599 feet (487 m).

It is a Geological Conservation Review site, recognised as being nationally important for its south-western lowland heath communities and for transitions from ancient semi-natural woodland through upland heath to blanket mire. The Chains provides a palynological record of a mid to late Flandrian vegetation history on Exmoor. The pollen sequence in the peat is calibrated by radiocarbon dating.

On the Chains above Simonsbath is a 3 acres (1.2 ha) reservoir known as Pinkery Pond. It was formed by John Knight and his son in the 19th century by damming the River Barle. The pond was originally intended to be 7 acres (2.8 ha). Its purpose is unknown but close to the pond are the remains of a small canal.
