Ceremony

A ceremony (UK /ˈsɛrɪməni/, US /ˈsɛrəˌmoʊni/) is an event of ritual significance, performed on a special occasion. The word may be of Etruscan origin, via the Latin caerimonia.

Ceremony (punk band)

Ceremony is an American punk rock band from Rohnert Park, California. The band features Ross Farrar (vocals), Anthony Anzaldo (guitar), Justin Davis (bass), Andy Nelson (guitar), and Jake Casarotti (drums).

History

Formed in Rohnert Park, California, the band originally formed as Violent World until later changing the name to Ceremony.

In 2005, the band released the EP Ruined on Malfunction Records. This release was followed by their critically acclaimed first full-length album, Violence Violence, which included a re-recorded version of the Ruined EP.

2008 saw the release of Still Nothing Moves You, the band's first release on Bridge 9 Records, described by Keith Carman in Exclaim! magazine as "hardcore's equivalent of Hiroshima", which placed on Billboard's Top Internet and Top Heatseekers charts in August 2008.

After touring all around the world with bands including Blacklisted, Converge, and AFI, they have released new music, including their third full-length album Rohnert Park in 2010.

Ceremony (Spooky Tooth and Pierre Henry album)

Ceremony was a 1969 album by progressive UK rock band Spooky Tooth in collaboration with French electronic and "found-object" composer Pierre Henry. The album takes the form of a church service. A Pierre Henry-free version of the closing track ‘Hosanna’ appears on 2015 Universal release 'The Island Years 1967-1974' under the title ‘When I Get Home’.

The album is considered by (singer and songwriter) Gary Wright to have ended the band's career. "Then we did a project that wasn't our album. It was with this French electronic music composer named Pierre Henry. We just told the label, "You know this is his album, not our album. We'll play on it just like musicians." And then when the album was finished, they said, "Oh no no — it's great. We're gonna release this as your next album." We said, "You can't do that. It doesn't have anything to do with the direction of Spooky Two and it will ruin our career." And that's exactly what happened.".

Loop (inlet)

The Loop or Darss Canal (Darßer Kanal) was an inlet of the sea between the lagoon known as the Saaler Bodden and the Baltic Sea near Ahrenshoop on the German coast. It formed the northern boundary of the region of Fischland. Originally the Loop was the northern estuarine branch of the River Recknitz.

The old inlet ran between the present villages of Ahrenshoop and Althagen. The Loop was roughly two metres deep and had posts for mooring boats and barges. Its navigability was frequently curtailed by storms and silting up. Today only a small ditch remains on the former Mecklenburg-Pomeranian border, which runs alongside a main road, the so-called Grenzweg ("border way").

The cartographer and court astronomer at the Mecklenburg court, Tilemann Stella, described the Loop thus: "Between the village of Oldenhagen [Althagen] and the Arnshope [Ahrenshoop], the waters of the Ribnitz river and lake break through into the salty sea. Beyond the beach is a large pile of rock and bricks at the place by the beach; that was the customs post, located 3 or 4 ruthen [50 metres] into the salty sea. Beyond that, forty or fifty posts stood in the salt sea, at the end of which was a large pile of rocks on which the fort stood."

Definition

According to one definition, a turn is a structural motif where the C^α atoms of two residues separated by few (usually 1 to 5) peptide bonds are close (< 7 Å), while the residues do not form a secondary structure element such as an alpha helix or beta sheet with regularly repeating backbone dihedral angles. Although the proximity of the terminal C^α atoms usually correlates with formation of a hydrogen bond between the corresponding residues, a hydrogen bond is not a requirement in this turn definition. That said, in many cases the H-bonding and C^α-distance definitions are equivalent.
