Cazenove may refer to:
Cazenove was a British stockbroker and investment bank, founded in 1823 by Philip Cazenove. It was one of the UK's last independent investment banks and one of the last to remain a private partnership. The main parts of the business were acquired by JPMorgan Chase in 2009 with the remains being sold to other financial institutions.
The Partnership was well known for its 'blue-blooded' reputation and its complete aversion to publicity, but was one of the most successful brokers and corporate advisers in London, being described by the Financial Times as 'dominant' and as having an 'aura'.
The company has its roots from the early Huguenot financiers that left France for Geneva in 1685 following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, which established Catholicism as the state religion of France. Among those were members of the Cazenove family, who later left Geneva for the UK seeking wealth and freedom in the City of London.
In 1819 Philip Cazenove first joined the business of his brother-in-law John Menet. Cazenove and Menet become partners, and in 1823 the beginnings of the firm of Cazenove are born. After Menet died Cazenove entered into a partnership with Joseph Laurence and Charles Pearce.
Cazenove is a ward in the London Borough of Hackney and the area forms part of the Hackney North and Stoke Newington constituency. Its name derives from the Cazenove Road which runs through the ward.
The ward was created for the May 2002 election.
The ward returns three councillors to Hackney London Borough Council, with elections every four years. At the most recent election on 6 May 2010 Ian Sharer, Dawood Akhoon and Abraham (Sam) Jacobson, all candidates for the Liberal Democrats, were elected. The turnout was 61%, and 5,013 votes were cast.
The area is bounded by Upper Clapton to the east, Stamford Hill to the north, Stoke Newington to the west and Stoke Newington Common to the south. Cazenove ward has a total population of 10,504. This compares with the average ward population within the borough of 10,674.
From May 2014 the wards of Hackney are redrawn. The Cazenove ward expands slightly to the northeast, taking in part of the Springfield ward. It returns three councillors.
No turning back
not when we've come this far
forget the past
reach for the stars
heaven knows we tried
out on the weirs the world flies
all our hard times
was it all vain
or will we go that X-tra mile
we won't surrender now
you gotta go that X-tra mile
it's hard to face up
to the world outside
when you're locked inside
heaven we learn
it hurts when our children cry
it's time that we turn
posing the question why
underpath of life
so many roads to follow
yes it may be hard
but it's never in vain
if we go that X-tra mile
never surrender no
we gotta go that X-tra mile
it's hard to hold on
to a dream that's dying
we gotta be strong and keep on trying
the X-tra mile
the X-tra mile...
if we go that X-tra mile
we won't surrender now
gotta go that X-tra mile
it's hard to hold on
to a dream that's dying
we gotta be strong and keep on trying
the X-tra mile
