Cattle drive

A cattle drive is the process of moving a herd of cattle from one place to another, usually moved and herded by cowboys on horses.

Australia

Australia is noted for long drives. Patsy Durack, for instance, left Queensland for the Kimberleys in Western Australia in 1885 with 8,000 cattle, arriving with only half that number some two years and two months later, completing a drive of some 3,000 miles. Indeed, long cattle drives continued well into the latter half of the twentieth century.

Cattle Drive is a 1951 American western film directed by Kurt Neumann and starring Joel McCrea. Much of the film was shot in the Death Valley National Park, California and Paria, Utah.

Plot synopsis

Chester Graham Jr. (Dean Stockwell), the spoild young son of a wealthy railroad owner, manages to get himself lost in the middle of nowhere. He is found by a cowboy (Joel McCrea) on a cattle drive. The lad must start learning the hard lessons of working in a team if he wants to make it to Santa Fe.
